If you are looking for an upbeat easy vibe, this isn't the place. It's a pretty stuffy almost pretentious place. The chef literally does not look or speak to you until they serve you your pretty fair yet over priced sushi. Nice size portions and the sushi was good but not great. For the price and quality you can definitely find better. Hope this helps!

It was a delightful experience and they were very accommodating! They even paid attention to detail to my two friends who were left handed and made sure that their plate of nigiri was flipped for them. So that was — next level customer service & food was absolutely delicious! Thank you!

I've been wanting to try some omakase in the city and wow- what a great impression. My friend recommended this place for their a la carte but when we saw the omakase price ($95) we thought that was a steal compared to most places in the area. We were absolutely blown away by the quality of the fish with every piece nearly melting in our mouths. We sat at the bar which was perfect for the chef to explain to us each fish. From the pics, you can tell that the cuts are pretty thick. I will say- we had a lot of snapper nigiri (maybe around 3 of the 8 pieces) but everything we ate was great. The finishing hot item with the scallop was great as well! Logistics wise: we parked on the street relatively close to the restaurant. When we walked in, we checked-in for our reservation that I initially booked through OpenTable. It was nice that not everyone had to do omakase - even though we all did. We were also pleasantly grateful for the hooks on the wall for our bags. It was dimly lit, and overall a modern feel. It definitely filled up by the middle of our reservation (~7pm). I'd definitely come back the next time I'm in the area!

I went to eat at Okaeri with a friend and we had an amazing experience. Food was fresh and good quality. We had very good suggestions and explanations from our waitress and the sushi master too. The place was quiet, decor was clean and comfortable.

We had a wonderful dinner here. We ordered the omakase, and it was so good. The fish was very flavorful, fresh, and served at the perfect temperature. The appetizers were presented beautifully and were delicious. Some of the appetizers were monk fish pâté, mackerel sashimi, and tamago. The sushi were served five at a time. Lastly, we ate chawanmushi topped with two slices of sashimi. We also ordered a couple of rolls, and they were delicious. I'd definitely return. Service was great. Our server was friendly and helpful. S

I love this place, the service is always top notch, the Nigiri & Appetizers are the best in the city in my opinion. Sushi rolls are a little too sweet for my taste, but the fish is always quality & the level of service & thoughtfulness is superb

Some of the best fish I’ve ever had. It was so fresh and tender. Had the chef’s nigiri selection. Was so good. Also had a roll which was very good. Desert was medium. Would have preferred to spend the money on another roll. Would definitely come again and just get all fish

The Toast is absolute HEAVEN. It is orgasmic and I felt the reverberations of it the entire meal. It was creamy and had a layered taste.

We did the omakase and were not disappointed. Some surprising and delightful fish from far off lands on the nigiri. Their mackerel gilded with uni and caviar with a real treat. Our meal ended with a lovely egg custard and scallop dish. I also really enjoyed the sake selection. I recommend Okaeri and look forward to returning!

Best agedashi tofu I've ever had. Exceptional (and stuffed) spicy tuna roll. Love that the nigiri came pre-seasoned from the chef.

There are an abundant amount of Japanese restaurants in San Francisco to choose from, however, I took a gamble and chose Okaeri for a Saturday lunch with a colleague of mine— and it did not disappoint WHATSOEVER!

The restaurant itself has a modern decor and the noise level was very nice for a late afternoon lunch.

We started off with the Yuzu Foam Oysters which really set the bar for what was to come. The yuzu foam was intriguing to see as an offering, and it absolutely blew us away with how well it went with the oysters. Creamy and Umami— so so good!

We ordered a few rolls: Cyclone Roll, Snow Mountain Roll, Salmon Lover Roll, & the Spicy Tuna Roll. Every roll tasted fresh, a great balance and ratio of fish to rice, perfect amount of seasoning, and expertly presented. Each roll had excellent flavor. My colleague and I both agreed that we were impressed with how well each tasted!

To wrap up our meal, we ordered The Toast. This is hands down something everyone in San Francisco must try at least once… because it is unique and delicious. Uni Cream-Toro Tartare + Uni Caviar on a buttered thick toast— it was DIVINE.

I am so glad I decided to venture out across the city to try Okaeri. This place is a winner. The service was great, the restaurant looks nice, and the quality of the fish and flavor was fresh and delicious. I will definitely be coming back and I highly recommend if you appreciate authentic and delicious Japanese food!

Came here on my own for my birthday. Was an amazing experience.

I got the omakase menu and it was excellent. The little starting plate they gave had an assortment of little bites that each had a very interesting assortment of flavors and textures. I especially liked the tempura with (from what I remember was) a little flower shaped radish piece on it. As for the nigiri, each piece blew me away. They hit each piece with a blowtorch for just enough to slightly render the fat so every piece coats your mouth in fat and flavor and it is just delicious. I have had a lot of sushi all around the world including Japan and this is probably the best I've ever had.

The service is great, every person I spoke to was very kind, friendly, and accommodating. I was a little anxious going somewhere like this on my own for a special occasion but everyone made me feel welcome.

I highly recommend visiting Okaeri!

The sushi was delicious, but: the value proposition is having a special experience, not satisfying your appetite. The omakase (which I'd recommend!) — a beautiful app plate, 10 nigiri, and chawanmushi - plus a half bottle of sake per diner ended up running about $175 per person. We didn't regret it but I remember myself from just a few years well enough to realize that this would be a real sticker shock situation for a lot of people. So, just: be ready for that, and you'll have a great meal.
