- peking duck ($33.99) solid! i love how peking duck comes with gua bao buns and spring onions and tasty sauce. definitely great for a big group meal. - minced squab with lettuce ($17.99) ok! i generally love lettuce wraps and found this one pretty decent. however, i definitely preferred the other dishes more. - fillet steak french style ($16.00) ok! pretty good flavor and portions. i thought the meat was tasty while the overall dish was just alright. - prawns with walnut in sauce ($19.99) ok! pretty good flavor and portions. i thought the prawns were really tasty without being too oily and maintaining good crisp. - baked pork ribs with spicy salt ($13.99) delicious!! surprisingly one of my favorites of the meal. the pork ribs were really yummy with just the right amount of spice, without being overly salty or fatty. definitely would get this again. - lobster ($23.96) ok! this was a lobster on the smaller side so it didn't seem to carry a lot of meat. nonetheless, the flavor was decent. - 2 steam rice ($2.58) great complement to the dishes and a standard part of a meal! - overall ($162.60) i put in a reservation for 6pm. it actually wasn't very full when i got there but filled up by the time i finished dinner. i do think they're more known for their dim sum though so i would come back to try that. overall good experience!

Very delicious dim sum here! I love going here with friends and eating all the typical dim sum plates such as hargow and shumai. It's a very traditional place with the carts being pushed around by nice ladies. I know at night time, they have fancy dinner service, which I've been for my graduation and ordered lobster and fish. Definitely a staple place when I'm feeling the authentic Chinese food cravings. Try to come here early so parking is better.

We came here a few times when I was a kid. We dined indoors tonight since COVID restrictions have eased and restaurants are reopening. They have a discount for the crab if you order more than 35$ in other dishes. I didn't have any of the crab because I'm vegetarian (they have lots of veggie options) but everything else was good. Standard Cantonese seafood fare. Annoyed that their takeout boxes are all styrofoam, which is not unusual for the area but still disappointing so I'm docking their rating.

The place was PAACCCKKKED on a Friday right before noon for dine in. I went to get takeout and alllll the tables were full! And the carts were going around with the goods. We got the dimsum check list at the front, marked it up, and went to the register to pay. The line is a mess like any other Asian restaurant that caters to the older group.. know who's in front of you because some WILL cut. I was at the front when a lady in back was complaining to me about a grandpa who just cut her to get his takeout food when she was waiting in line to get hers. We ordered 11 dishes and was told to come back in 25 min. When I got there, food was ready but no sauces included so I had to ask for the sauce that comes with the rice noodles.... isn't that a given though? To include the rice noodle sauce... good thing I caught it. After trying a few other dimsum places, I could tell the flavors here were definitely an improvement. Everything ended up being about $50 but I feel like some things were smaller than other restaurants.

They are open again for indoor dining, but I'm gonna stick with takeout for now. Even though I'm vaccinated I prefer to just stick with togo. I posted the menu as of 5/14/21. Staff isn't the friendliest, especially if you have a Chinese face like me but can't speak a lick of Canto or Mandarin. But for old school places like Five Star you don't come for the customer service lol. You come for the good quality and reasonable prices for the dim sum.

The workers don't understand English very well. We were the only non-Asians at the restaurant

GREAT food, decent service Been here many times with my family & relatives during LA trips (mainly dim sum & dinner). All the dishes are *solid & DELICIOUS*, including the dim sum from the carts. Pre-COVID: SERVICE VARIES- generally okay & tolerable. Don't be shy & wave them down as you need to. Gets a little crazy sometimes but tranquility is a necessity that needs to be sacrificed to thoroughly enjoy good dim sum or Chinese food in an authentic atmosphere. --if you have anxiety or don't want to deal w/ the chaos consider coming w/ extroverts! LOCATION: Forgot which floor, need to take the elevator up after entering a building, next to Ranch 99

"I come to this restaurant for years, favorite spot for dim sum, 4/5 stars" Lol, what are these other reviews? Why spend a lot of money & be a customer for years at a restaurant if you won't give it a 5-star review??? TO EACH THEIR OWN. You do you, I guess. Anyways, I also have been coming here for years because it's reliable, and was here recently. The tables seemed much more spaced out. It gets a 5-star rating from me, because (to me) Dim Sum is a family affair and the elders in my family enjoyed the food a lot more here than at another restaurant we went to. And having dim sum back-to-back, I agree. The chicken feet slid off the bone (was not rubbery), siu mai was tasty, the wrap around the har gow wasn't super thick, the egg custard was very flaky and good.

Came during covid, had all the selection you could want for a dim sum. They really spaced out the tables and the staff was clean / covid safe. Pretty good for all the staples! Come hungry.

They're finally open again!!! My first dim sum brunch since pre-covid. It's my favorite spot for dimsum with my family. They have the rolling carts just like they use in Hongkong. They're currently only seating people at every other table so about 50% capacity or less. The quality of the food is very close to how it used to.. price is a bit more expensive than it used to be but still fairly inexpensive!

I haven't had dim sum in soOOOo long, and thank goodness I broke that with Five Star. The dim sum was super fresh-- not quite as greasy as other dim sum places too, which typically makes me super lethargic after a big meal. They've got all the usual favorites: har gow, shomai, buns, chicken feet, bean curd, and my favorite, beef rice noodle! (The bbq pork is fire too). All are wonderfully executed and generous in portion size. Service is as to be expected - curt but quick! They refresh the carts all the time so even if it feels like there's a lull, your patience will be rewarded!

Am glad Five Stars Seafood Restaurant now is open for DIM SUM-Dine in. However, they are OVERWHELMED and do not know how to run it like pre Covid time. During the pandemic, we fully supported this place by doing the To Go-Dim Sum. Operation went smoothly even during the TOUGH TIME. Orders were packed correctly and condiments were included. Now, things are slowly getting back to normal by opening up for dine in. However, their operation is missing the normal rhythm and beats. They FAILED by only packing half of our TO GO order and PROVIDE NO CONDIMENTS. If SHORT CHANGING is in their formula of operation, it is really a BAD and TERRIBLE idea especially to loyal customers.

Our family's favorite dim sum spot! And every item is one flat rate of $3.49 per order! 1.5 to 2 LB LOBSTER WITH NOODLES FOR $23.99 EACH TRAY! And it's always cooked perfectly. I actually don't like E-Fu noodles since they can dry out quickly if not eaten right away, but they're always very tasty here since there's a thick ginger scallion sauce from the lobster. My dad has been ordering dim sum from this place once a week for the past few years. He's very particular about his dim sum, and he loves everything from this place. They are much bigger in size in comparison to Capital, NBC, Sea Harbor, and Top Island. And significantly cheaper. This place was always packed like sardines in the lobby with easily 2+ hour waits on weekends prior to the pandemic, it's weird seeing it so empty now. Tables are set up easily to practice proper social distancing between customers. Highly recommend calling to pre-order since everything will be packaged in reusable containers for convenience. Limited dim sum menu for now, and it's been the same since they reopened back in May. If they bring back the Crispy Seafood eggrolls, make sure to grab an order! One of the best things I've ever had from dim sum.

So many memories at Five Star (previously New Capital)!! Before COVID-19, my family used to come here weekly. No joke, sometimes even multiple times a week during the summer. Without the dim sum ladies and the busy busboys, it's not quite the same experience these days. They've been hit hard by the pandemic... so show them some love. It will be a sad day if the large Cantonese banquet style restaurants are no longer... SPACE: What used to be the whole top floor has now been decreased to less than half. From the elevators, go up to 4th, turn left and around the corner are tables with pens and menus. Red tape on the floor for 6 feet apart and plenty of space to wait since they removed all their tables. There's also giant plexiglass between register and you during payment. MENU: Limited to the traditional dishes and they don't have their special weekend experiments (my grandma is sad they don't have their taro tower anymore). They also have the normal lunch/dinner menu so you can order noodles and other entree dishes. Accept walk in orders and phone orders. I saw some delivery folks from fantuan, so I assume they partner for delivery. PICK UP: When your order is ready, they will put the bag out on the table with receipt (they ask your name when ordering) and call your name. PRICE: Carry out is flat $3.49 per dish plus tax. Believe this price is decent, I've seen some places charge upwards of $4 per dish (especially the ones that do tiered menu). PAYMENT: Credit cards accepted (Visa / MasterCard only, no Amex). Cash accepted too.
