Loved it, superb spot. Hard to find as it is tucked away. The best way is going northbound on N First street and turning into the parking lot, which was pretty big. Food was amazing, the dinning room was huge and had a good lively vibe. The chicken has a heavy smoke flavor and was super tasty and seasoned to perfection. The pulled pork was tender but could use a bit more flavor.

The food was the bomb! The mac and cheese was off the hook delicious. I couldn’t stop eating it! My hot link was cooked perfectly. My wife had the fried fish with the yams and fries, and loved it. In fact, my son, who had the maple pecan waffles and chicken, finished off my wife’s fish, along with the cornbread muffin and fries. The food was so delicious that my wife came back to the downtown location the next night with her friends before they went to see “ And Juliet” at Broadway San Jose! We definitely will be back to the downtown location before our next Broadway SJ show, and plan to go to the other location on Monday!
First time eating here, as the online reviews were pretty good, and they were also featured on Check Please, Bay Area. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I ordered my food to go and did not take any pictures. I had the catfish dinner with yams and greens. Also ordered ribs, they were huge, brisket, mac and cheese, and green beans but received an extra order of greens instead. The yams tasted like they were canned yams. It was all very tasty but disappointed it wasn't really homemade. The entrée prices were reasonable for the amount of food received. I went on Saturday, they were a little busy but I didn't have to wait long for my order. Nice-sized restaurant with a full bar. They do have parking but it is a little small and was pretty full. There are not that many soul food restaurants in the Bay, although I was quite disappointed because I expected it to be homemade, the food is just okay. Not sure I would return to this place.

Finally visited this place after hearing about it for awhile, it was definitely good. I like that you can order on your phone and pay prior. The food was good, the only thing was that the fried fish was good a little too much but other than that it was pretty good.

Not dressed up soul food with big portions and amazing flavor. I'm hoping they get Okra in sometime soon but also understand it's not for everybody, and might go bad before i can get there and eat it all. Ordered gumbo one day, came back four days later and had macaroni with beef brisket on top. 🙏🏻

Jackie's Place in downtown San Jose is an absolute gem, and a must-visit for anyone craving authentic, flavorful, and heartfelt Southern cooking.
From the moment you arrive, you know you're in for something special. The restaurant has a dedicated parking lot, which is a huge plus, but be warned—this place is so popular that the lot fills up fast. We saw the line stretching out the door, and it's a testament to just how incredible the food is. My advice? Get there early to beat the rush!
The food itself is nothing short of transcendent. We're still dreaming about the Oxtail and the Shrimp & Grits. The oxtail was fall-off-the-bone tender and unbelievably rich, and the shrimp and grits were the perfect combination of creamy, savory, and spicy. Both came with a generous side of rice and moist, delicious cornbread. We also had Uncle Greg's Rib plate, and the ribs were smoky, succulent, and perfectly seasoned. And let's talk about the greens—they were cooked to absolute perfection, with a depth of flavor that can only come from a truly skilled kitchen. Every single dish we tried was a perfect example of tasty, traditional Southern food done right.
Jackie's Place has also mastered the art of a modern, efficient dining experience. The semi-self-serve system is a stroke of genius. You scan a QR code at your table to place your order directly with the kitchen, which is a seamless and time-saving process. You grab your own water from one of the well-maintained stations, and the servers who bring out your food are incredibly friendly and attentive.
The restaurant's interior is just as impressive as the food. It's modern, clean, and functional, creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. It's clear that the owners have put a lot of thought into every detail, from the decor to the service flow.
In short, Jackie's Place is a soul food paradise. The food is mind-blowing, the service is top-notch, and the atmosphere is fantastic. If you're looking for an unforgettable meal in San Jose, do yourself a favor and get to Jackie's Place. Just be prepared to wait in line—it's worth every single second!
