I came to the bakery 25 minutes before close and they no longer had anything out and were cleaning up to close the doors. They posted that they would be open and in my opinion that means you can still purchase items. Their door was wide open! I asked if they were closed and I was told “pretty much!” They had high reviews and I am from out of town. It would have been nice to be able to make a purchase.

Very few gluten free options. Only gluten free desert.

I ordered some quiches and pastries for a large group to each while getting ready for a wedding and everything came out delicious. The personal quiches were the perfect size. I also really liked the almond croissants.

We ordered birthday cake. It was not well decorated.. looked like home made cake and not made in professional bakery. Very disappointed with taste…. Not sure why can’t they make cake as good as their pastries.

I adore this bakery-it's my favorite bakery in town, and I take great pleasure in supporting small family-run businesses. I visit almost every week, and I always get their almond croissants; they are so flavorful and moist at the center! Their macarons, cheesecakes, and cakes are also exceptional. I loved their macarons so much that I placed a large order for my wedding!

Jonathan consistently greets me with warmth and friendliness and makes each visit a joy.

No week feels complete without indulging in their almond croissants, so I often call ahead and place an order as they tend to sell out quickly!

Exceptional cake baked by exceptional folks.

I ordered their flourless chocolate cake for our gluten-free friends attending my wife's 50th birthday party.

Everything about my experience was perfect. Jonathon was super friendly & helpful over the phone. The cake was ready on time & looked almost too good (sophisticated ganache/cocoa striping). I wish I had more time to enjoy all the tasty baked goods on display.

The cake was a smash at the party. Texture & flavor made no compromise for being gluten free. Moist, almost fudgy, rich & chocolatey. Only one small piece was left for my wife & I to share, and that was because our gluten-capable friends were being thoughtful.

I'm looking forward to our next event as an excuse to order another cake from these folks.

Dietary restrictions: Flourless chocolate cake is exceptionally good

I decided to try this place because of high ratings everywhere. I got an eclair and three mousse cakes. Overall I was very disappointed. Everything I got was stale at least 2-3 days old how can they sell this type of old stuff without shame…. They tasted funny and mousses were dense not airy or soft. Eclair was also dense and inside was whipped cream instead of custard. This is one of the worst dessert I have had in a long time. The store looked empty and sad. The pastry items looked old and dry. This is first and last time I will ever be in this store. I ended up garbaging majority of items because they were inedible.

Jane Ellen Bakery: A Slice of Paris in San Jose!

As a French native living in San Jose, I've been on a quest for a taste of home, and I am thrilled to say that Jane Ellen Bakery has delivered in a big way. I visited for the first time this morning, and let me tell you, it might just be the best bakery in the Bay Area for croissants and baguettes.

The croissants are nothing short of perfection—flaky, buttery, and with that delightful melt-in-your-mouth quality that is so elusive outside of France. The pain au chocolat was equally impressive, with rich, gooey chocolate and a perfect balance of sweetness. My kids were absolutely amazed to find such authentic French pastries right here in the US—they couldn’t believe their taste buds!

I also picked up a baguette, which was equally outstanding. Crispy crust, tender crumb—just like what you’d find in a boulangerie in Paris. Everything I tried was delicious and truly made me feel like I was back in France, even if just for a moment.

Jane Ellen Bakery has quickly become my go-to spot for French pastries in the Bay Area. Highly recommend to anyone craving an authentic taste of France right in San Jose. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!

Bon appétit!

Jane Ellen is the best bakery in the area! The pastries are amazing, the desserts are elegant and just the right amount of sweet, and the staff is so warm and friendly.

Jane made an awesome cake for my daughter's first birthday. We got the raspberry pistachio cake, just great - fruity, nutty, very well balanced, not too sweet, extremely pretty. Macarons are very good as well, especially the earl grey ones. A touch expensive but the food and service are totally worth it.
