Went to Japantown in San Jose and a friend of.mine recommended thus restaurant. We had to wait about 15 minutes for a table. The service was fast abd the male server was very polite and always have a smile in his face. All the dishes we ordered was really tasty and fresh except for the beef dish. We were expecting it to be tender and juicy but it was chewy and a little bland.

Dinnertime seemed to be quite busy—service was just so dreadfully slow. It took quite a while for us to receive our food.
The food overall felt like a very average homestyle Japanese meal. Both the kaisendon and teriyaki were decent.

Kaita’s food is always super yummy, clean, fresh, and there’s always something new to try on the Special Menu! The atmosphere is local and welcoming. It felt comfortable and familiar from the first moment I stepped in, and continues to make me feel at home every time I stop by to eat. The food and the people never fail to make me smile. Going to Kaita’s feels like going to your neighbor’s house to eat, except your neighbor is an amazing chef with exceptionally fresh ingredients! Thanku! ✨

Unthinkable. Imagine walking around the neighborhood at 11 a.m. in the heat with your dog, and you stop by this place by chance to kindly ask if they could fill your dog's bowl with tap water. And they tell you it's not possible, and that it would be better if I went to the grocery store across the street to buy a bottle of water for my dog.
Zero service, zero humanity, zero empathy. This kind of business should be avoided.
On the other hand, just to the left at Kumako Ramen, I found a dog bowl filled with ice water right at their entrance — thank you to them.

Amazing food! The place was a little warm for me, but can't beat the food. We tried the pork and clam noodle soup, California roll and teriyaki chicken and everything was really tasty!

A compact, straightforward and very good general Japanese restaurant serving not only the classics, but specialities of its own art very raspberries prices. Had excellent agedashi tofu, a huge serving of well prepared karage chicken, and tonkatsu with a unique miso sauce. Will be coming back.

We had a solid time at Kaita, pretty good overall. The service was on point: we got seated fast, had enough time to figure out our order, and the food showed up quick. Could’ve used a smile or two, though—they were polite but not exactly warm and fuzzy. 😐 They’ve got a regular menu plus a whiteboard with specials, which is cool.
We went for the pan-cooked miso cod special and the sushi-sashimi combo. Pair those with the soup and salad, and you’ve got a decent-sized meal. The salad dressing was tasty, maybe a little sweet for my liking. The miso soup? Super good, no notes there. 🥣
The sushi and sashimi were a win for me. The fish was fresh—you could really taste it—and the piece selection were nice. Seems like they care more about quality than piling your plate high, which I’m all for. The ginger stood out big time—so smooth and sweet, not that harsh stuff you get some places. The rice, though? Kinda dry. I’m guessing it was just an off batch, no biggie.
The miso black cod was solid too. Funny thing—it didn’t actually have miso, but some other soup I’d never tried before. Still delicious, though! That dish came with a little sashimi on the side, which was a nice bonus. 🍣

Kaita offers really great authentic Japanese food and is located in the heart of Japan Town, SJ. The restaurant is on the smaller side and may not be suited for groups larger than eight. If you don't arrive during opening times, you can expect some wait time. There is metered street parking available around the area. I've visited both for lunch and dinner, and they have different menus for each. The lunch menu is more limited, offering select items, while the dinner menu has a wide variety of options. I particularly enjoy their handrolls and sushi rolls. My favorite dish on their menu is the salmon soup rice, a rare find as not many Japanese restaurants make o cha salmon rice soup anymore. I also tried their katsu curry, and the portions are huge for the price you pay. The service here is fantastic; the staff is very attentive, providing free hot tea and water, and they ensure your glass is never empty. The food comes out relatively quickly as well. Overall, I highly recommend this place to anyone in the mood for authentic Japanese food.

The food was decent. Wait time for food was over a hour. At least we were seated immediately. The food was ok. The atmosphere came from the menu and the looks of the kitchen

There were 4 empty tables and still, our party and others were left outside in the cold. They let us in when we made eye contact with them.
My unagi sushi had bones in them. The food came out super late (about 45 mins).
There is only 1 toilet. I waited for like 15-20 mins and there was a line behind and in front of me.
Not recommend.

The gyoza and salad dressing was the best item I had. The gyoza was crispy and quite enjoyable.
The sushi didn’t seem fresh and rice was not very sticky. The udon soup was okay.

Authentic Japanese and Japanese/American food. Vibe is local mom & pop shop, menu has "homecooking" items that are hard to find outside of Japan. Some might find the menu "boring", but I find it perfectly comforting and filled only with quality instead of gimmicks.
Highly recommend the Ikayaki (grilled squid), ramen salad, and whatever they put on the specials menu.
