A small and a German authentic place with decent collection of German beers and food. I must try if you're in the area, the service was very friendly as well.

Our first visit here before the Sharks Leafs game. We had a great waiter who, although born in the US (he did some study in Germany) spoke good German, and I enjoyed our conversation “Auf Deutsch.” Typical German Bier Stube food done to perfection! My wife and I will be making this a habitual go to place when visiting San Jose and I recommend you should also…..

Had the Jager schnitzel and a cherry cider, they went really well together. The mushroom sauce was just about perfect. Followed up with an apple strudel for dessert. It was so much food and so good. The waiter, Anders I believe, was very friendly and came by frequently to check on everyone. Plenty of outdoor seating. Can't recommend this restaurant enough.

Great place to hangout with friends - good German beers on tap and solid food options (although not the cheapest place to eat). Their patio area is a good time on a nice weather day! ??

Great food, great beer, and great service. The bacon wrapped croquet with kaese spaetzle appetizer is amazing along with everything else that I tasted. Can’t wait to go back.

The Mac and cheese was amazing and it's a must try. I loved it. The pretzel balls in mushroom sauce were very good too. The sauce was rich and creamy. The pretzel we got from the appetizer menu was so soft and warm. As per my German friend, the vegetarian dishes we had here are very authentic. You have great beer options here.

I came here with high hopes for the food and beer and I can say with 100% honesty that this is one of the most authentic German experiences I've ever had outside of actually being in Germany. The food was excellent, the beers served in the correct glassware, and the atmosphere was welcoming thanks to the owner's friendly attitude and attention to his patrons.I'd give Ludwig's 6 stars if I could.

Visited this place with a party of 4 on a Saturday evening. Friendly staff, although our server seemed inexperienced. Food and drink orders came quickly. Ample portions of food and decent beer selection. Prices a little high but not unreasonable. Decor and ambiance not very "German." Parking situation is less than desirable.

Last Friday, I tried this place, and I had the most beautiful time and service there!I didn't make a reservation, so they only have tables in the restaurant area, but I didn't mind, and let me tell you, the restaurant area (upstairs) atmosphere is lovely! The decoration, attention to detail, and services are more than friendly -you feel special (as you should) there.I enjoyed:- Jager Fries (creamy mushroom sauce, baked with gruyere cheese- Cheese Croquettes (spicy lingonberry aioli)- Sausage bites- Sausage Plate (comes with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut)- ApfelstrudelIf you want to have a great time with friends, family, or yourself, go for it!

Had a little appetizer feast - but still quite full; I mean, this *is* German food ?. We had the pretzel dumplings, the sausage rolls, spaetzle dumplings wrapped in bacon (My favorite! Shocking!) The beet salad, and the red cabbage. Husband went with a traditional dark (but not heavy) beer, and I had the Hugo - so refreshing! We'll be back for entrees next time - got my eye on some schnitzel

What a wonderful authentic German restaurant. We had a great time here, great food and drinks for kids and adults. The staff is friendly. Their pretzels are made in Germany and finished here at the restaurant. The ambience is great, outdoor seating is charming with heating lamps.Great beer choices. I'll be back with friends and co-workers.

Absolutely a magnificent experience. Indoor seating is posh with (what I'm assuming is faux fur) and the outdoor seating is traditional German. The food is absolutely top tier, and the litre pours are very welcoming.

A gem in creepy downtown San Jose. It is great for the neighbourhood to have this cultural restaurant. The one special thing they do to their menu is they rotate the dishes, so you don't have to revisit with the same food all the time. The chairs with umbrellas are part of their German culture. Kids love it! They sometimes sell real German bread (denser than American bread I guess. The Germans love that). Give it a try!

The atmosphere was really nice and the food was really good. Was very pleased with how the food tasted and prepared. Maybe a little pricy but definitely worth it. I highly recommend Ludwigs for great eats in downtown San Jose!?? Really good place for larger groups too.
