Jawohl! Hier wird Deutsch gesprochen. Das Essen ist super! Ich empfehle den Gulasch. Ein bißchen teuer aber dafür bezahlt man gerne mal etwas mehr! Das Bier ist auch frisch vom Faß!

The family organized a birthday celebration here that included about 11 of us. We were able to receive a long table outdoors and ordered our stuff family style, sans the beers of course. The food was amazing, the staff attentive and friendly, and the background music was killer. It was not what as expected a German hofbrau, but a lot of retro 80s music that were not completely popular but brought back a ton of nostalgia. Pro tip: order the larger size of the bier steins vs the smaller pint-sized steins. Order all the stuff. If you can't finish them, take em home. You have to try everything! Also, beware of the residents in the building across the street. The residents there are shady as heck due to the building being a Section 8 housing that houses a lot of the city's mentally ill. They are seen roaming outside on the streets in front of the restaurant at times. Best to not make eye contact or give while they're panhandling.

A small and a German authentic place with decent collection of German beers and food. I must try if you're in the area, the service was very friendly as well.

Very solid German food served in a traditional German Beer Garden. Menu a bit limited for my taste with the typical greatest hits of German traditional food and not much else. But it's well done, the staff is friendly, prices reasonable especially for the location and the place delivers on the German beer garden experience. Beer list has a good selection of German imports.

Our first visit here before the Sharks Leafs game. We had a great waiter who, although born in the US (he did some study in Germany) spoke good German, and I enjoyed our conversation “Auf Deutsch.” Typical German Bier Stube food done to perfection! My wife and I will be making this a habitual go to place when visiting San Jose and I recommend you should also…..

Sit inside if you can. I love this place. Outside is nice too since they have heaters outside. If not, go inside and grab a blanket for your lap. Jagersnitzel - 5 stars This can be a shareable as it is big. Come to do family style if you can. Super crispy and crunchy. Sauce is great. I always love coming here for some brats and snitzel. I love the mushroom gravy on the snitzel and fries.

Had the Jager schnitzel and a cherry cider, they went really well together. The mushroom sauce was just about perfect. Followed up with an apple strudel for dessert. It was so much food and so good. The waiter, Anders I believe, was very friendly and came by frequently to check on everyone. Plenty of outdoor seating. Can't recommend this restaurant enough.

Great place to hangout with friends - good German beers on tap and solid food options (although not the cheapest place to eat). Their patio area is a good time on a nice weather day! ??

Excellent German beer garden and restaurant. Good place to go for an Oktoberfest. They have a lot of different beers available in an authentic setting. I had the Schweinshaxe, a roast pork knuckle that is a huge portion of meat. It's very good with a beers sauce, bread dumplings and sauerkraut. This dish is not easy to find so I recommend trying it. The second dish was the Nürnberger sausage plate with sauerkraut and a pretzel. Everything was good and the pretzel was soft and fresh. They even have the bee sting cake (Bienenstich) that is just like from a German bakery. It's my favorite German cake so I was very happy with it. Everything here is contactless and you use the QR code on your smartphone for the menu. Same thing with the bill if you want. Reservations are easily made online. Overall, I had a great experience here and would highly recommend it. I was a little disappointed that they ran out of the Oktoberfest beer, Apple strudel and didn't serve the roasted chicken. I will go back for them another day. Another thing to note is that they add a 3% living wage fee. I didn't know about that and I don't like these fees being added at many restaurants instead of including everything in one price. Go here for a German restaurant in San José it's fun!.

Cute little place in downtown. Love that they have a beautiful outdoor patio and also a gorgeous interior space. This is a great space to meet friends or have large group dinners. I loved that they have vegetarian options in the menu. I tried the vegan jagerschniztel and loved it. Loved the French fries, cucumber salad and potato salad. Would love to go back to try the veggie sausages. My husband said his meet schnitzel was 3.5/5 but let's remember that he goes to Austria all the time and has schnitzel there sooooo I'm grateful for this place, wonderful atmosphere and great service. Would definitely visit again.

We made reservations at Ludwig's for my husband's birthday so he could fulfill his dream of feasting on crispy pork shank while throwing back a glorious stein of beer. TL;DR: Come for the beer and ambience, but no need to splurge on dinner. Rating Breakdown: 1/2 Stars for Taste -- We started with some crispy potato pancakes as well as the Jager fries. The fries were crispy and smothered in savory mushroom goodness. However, the potato pancakes were served cold and definitely felt like that had been prepared well in advance. In addition to the crispy pork shank, we couldn't resist ordering the Jagerschnitzel. The pork shank was crispy as advertised, but didn't have much going for it beyond that. The beer sauce it was served in was bland, the pretzel dumplings tasted like they were salvaged from leftovers, and the pork just got tiring to chew after a while. The schnitzel's only purpose was to convey crack sauce to face. Honestly, the 1 star is probably just for the mushroom sauce, which was so good we ended up ordering some extra on the side so we could dip everything in it. 0.5/1 Stars for Value -- Honestly, each entree felt $5-10 overpriced for the portion size and value. If everything was mindblowingly delicious, I obviously wouldn't mind forking over the cash, but our meal could be summed up as "meh". The beer is also on the pricier side, coming to about $18 for a liter. Overall, you are paying a surcharge for the ambience and pub experience. 1/1 Stars for Customer Service -- Our waiter was super attentive and the food came out fast despite there being what looked like a wedding reception taking place at the same time. My only qualm is that when I asked for mushroom sauce on the side, I did not know it cost extra. I would definitely have splurged on the sauce anyway, but it would have been nice to have been warned beforehand. No bonus star because I think we will keep looking for our go-to place for pork shanks.

Great food, great beer, and great service. The bacon wrapped croquet with kaese spaetzle appetizer is amazing along with everything else that I tasted. Can’t wait to go back.

First time trying German food and I was not disappointed with this place! There's indoor and outdoor seating, and a good amount of seats. There's no parking lot that I know of, just street parking. Our waitress was super kind and service was quick. We ordered sides, entrees, and beer here. Forewarning that the meals feel very heavy, but I wasn't expecting anything less for mainly eating just meat. I'm not a huge fan of pretzels, but the beer cheese and the mustard they had on the side was so good to eat with it. The mustard they have here has a sort of berry flavor (sounds odd, but it's delicious). I wasn't wowed by the cheese croquettes, was good but I wouldn't get them again. On to the meats.. the variety in the sausage sampler was good and packed with flavor. I'd also say the curry sausage was good, but I also wouldn't get it again. It's tastes like what it sounds like, curry and sausage lol. The classic schnitzel is a little plain, but it comes with a berry jam that pairs perfectly with it. My favorite was the jagerschnitzel-- the meat with the mushroom sauce taste amazing together. I tried the kolsch and pilsner beers, both pretty light in flavor. I'm not much of a beer fan so I can't go into detail about their specific flavors, but I feel like the kolsch was a great pairing with the food. When looking through the menu, the prices look high but the portions are huge (see photos). We really wanted to try the pork knuckle but they weren't serving anymore for the evening. Definitely coming back here to try that.

The Mac and cheese was amazing and it's a must try. I loved it. The pretzel balls in mushroom sauce were very good too. The sauce was rich and creamy. The pretzel we got from the appetizer menu was so soft and warm. As per my German friend, the vegetarian dishes we had here are very authentic. You have great beer options here.
