Poor House Bistro is a beloved institution in San Jose, offering a warm and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant serves delicious food, including po'boys, shrimp Benedict, and decadent dishes like tasso ham alfredo. The staff is friendly and helpful, ensuring quick and friendly service as customers place their orders at the counter and pick them up when ready. The new location provides plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, making it perfect for those needing a quick meal before a Sharks game or concert at the nearby SAP Center. A full bar is available outside along with beer, wine, and sodas. The lively atmosphere is enhanced by a blues band on Sundays and occasional live music events. The food is highly praised, with favorites like shrimp and grits, which are described as perfect, creamy, cheesy, and topped with fresh, plump, meaty shrimp. Customers often enjoy a fun and friendly vibe, especially when live music is playing. The staff is attentive and quick to respond, as seen when a customer dropped an order of wings and received a replacement on the house. Overall, Poor House Bistro offers excellent food, great service, and a lively environment, making it a must-visit spot for those seeking a fun Cajun/Creole experience.
