I used to go here often for lunch when I worked on N. First in San Jose during the 80's. Many enjoyable lunches here with my coworkers. I stopped in for lunch whie doing jury duty and was delighted to find it was exactly the same after all these years. And the sandwiches were every bit as delicious. Great sandwich shop my Sister and I found by chance. Fresh warm bread and excellent Tuna for myself and Ham and Turkey for Sis. Highly recommend. Very nice people running the place as well. Plus they have a few sandwiches named after my home State of Idaho, definitely a plus.

A true old school family-owned joint, where they cover the walls in Barbara's gorgeous oil paintings of hot gals, put the same condiments on every sando, and only take cash. Always has a line and is worth the wait.

Delicious sandwiches, with warm, fluffy bread. Had both the pastrami and the salami and they were both excellent (the pastrami was my favorite). Cute patio with a nice atmosphere
Plenty of sandwich options. Delicious freshly baked sourdough bread. Great flavors in each of the meats. Really good mayo spread. Delicious pickle. Friendly staff. Lots of outdoor seating options. Cash only - they have their own ATM.

The Sourdough Eatery on First Street is the lunch spot with the most character and charm in central San José. They make sandwiches to order on fresh sourdough rolls baked on site one at a time. The menu is dead simple: just sandwiches all one price plus sides and drinks. Th dining room walls are covered with original art painted by the proprietor Barbara who also runs the cash register. The brick paved patio dining areas are shaded and make a relaxing place to sit and enjoy lunch.

Very good sandwich I got a roast beef sandwich. In my opinion it was very good I asked for onion and bell pepper to be added on. Very good customer service from the man making the sandwich and the lady at the register. Will be coming back.
