Mac and cheese is fantastic. Service was great. I also got a delicious smores pie.
Ok this place has so much to offer that does not exist at a typical restaurant.- Conscious Owner: she literally gave us special attention when my daughter came in to sell Girl Scout cookies (the vegan ones) and said "let me know when you get more and stay in touch. we're very happy to help."LIKE really she meant it and indeed did help continue to sell GS cookies even though they make NO money from it. Found out (before COVID), they have been supporting local kids groups and local schools A LOT.- Crazy Tasty Food: come on! I grew up in the South/Texas and we know how to eat fried food, BBQ animals and do anything with gravy. This place delivers the all the ridiculous comfort food but it's all VEGAN! And then they have other types of food too. Bonus- Very Cool Staff: So I am sure there are a lot of cool staff but I'll just point out 1 example of many. Our super cool waitress could really talk about the food from a deep perspective AND entertain us with her experiences in her music band.- LOCAL/WOMAN OWNED/MINORITY OWNED/UNIQUE/COMMUNITY SUPPORTER/PLANET POSITIVE/ACTIVISTS/CRAZY GOOD FOOD: The total package!
Won't eat here again after years of coming on and off. From a cleanliness perspective, which is very important obviously, this place is seriously offending. Very poorly run, managed and maintained. Walking back to the bathroom was just gross, the floor was so slippery, caked in oil or something, dangerous. Sitting down without plates, asking for some and being given take out boxes to eat out of with plastic utensils (no napkins either just the flimsy one out of the utensil bag), really? So annoying, sitting there for about an hour had to listen to the entrance door slam about 20 times as people came and went - fix it! The nachos were a sloppy soupy mess, extremely poor execution. Although I ordered the Hugo Burrito, they messed up and brought out the BBQ Chick'n Burrito. I actually kind of enjoyed it, but I kept fighting to chew through big chicken nuggets which made it very unenjoyable, too much BBQ sauce as well, recommend asking for a side of their red hot sauce to go along with it. Not sure why this place went downhill so badly over the years, menu is very slimmed down and the comfort food quality is just not there (don't like the burger patties either). Too bad.
My dinner with my spouse was wonderful. The Happy Hooligans is the best café in town . The cuisine was outstanding, as always satisfied with their services and environment too. The restaurant was bustling with cheerful diners who were enjoying the environment as well as the wonderful food!
This was the best hamburger I've had since I stopped eating meat! Will definitely be back!
Never understood the cult following for this place. I have given it a few chances thinking I might have gone on a bad day, but it continues to disappoint. The Reuben is passable, but I’ve had better ones at Mendocino Farms and Native Foods, and at home.
I can say it was worth every penny and the burrito the next day was worththe wait yummy
Really yummy! The Italian Soda was really good.
Food was surprisingly tasty. I ordered a cauliflower appetizer instead of a meal - but it really ought to have been shared amongst us as an appetizer, it was too oily - and spicy? - for me to have consumed the whole thing by myself, and didn't sit well with my tummy. We'd meant to dine in, and while they did have a few tables, it's not really an eat-in place. We had to eat from take-out containers, and plastic spoons. I try hard not to use single-use plastic, so this was a downer, though the containers themselves were not plastic, iirc, so that was nice.
Been here a couple times. The menu had changed since covid, but the food quality is still really good! Love that they have vegan Thai tea and the desserts are fantastic! The staff are awesome and very friendly. They are always busy so be prepared for a bit if a wait, but it's worth it.

Best vegan place I've been to so far since I've moved to San Jose! The owner, Matt, is very friendly and welcoming! I've had 2 of the burgers and they were both on point. Not to mention the huge side of fries......mmmmmm, fries......the burger came with. Also, the Italian soda was a great drink to wash it all down. Amazing!
consistent. very filling meals — this is my go-to for meeting my weekly vegan comfort food needs. it’s awesome that the staff are always very welcoming, and they care about the details of each order. thanks!
Love this place. The portion for each dish I ordered were really generous. I will definitely recommend to other Hooligans out there!
Awesome vegan spot. I am in ? with their vegan ranch dressing - I always order a few extra to go. If you get the hangry fries to go, here's a hack: get the toppings on the side, that way your fries will stay crispy. And finally, you MUST try the vegan chocolate ganache pie. I repeat: must. I will somehow be working that pie into all of my future holiday celebrations!
The food is relatively good. Tried out the ranch cauliflower bites, jackfruit carnitas burrito bowl, flautas. The jackfruit carnitas bowl was good. The cauliflower bites were a bit salty for my taste. But overall the food was above average.
