First time dining at L'Hirondelle. The service and ambience was perfect. Thoroughly enjoyed the pate and frog legs! We will be back.
Lovely old decor, excellent recipes, well-paced service. They offer small portions (but plenty big enough to satisfy). Soft music. Knowledgeable staff.
I ordered the Beef Bourguignon and it was so tender and delicious. The mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables were perfection!
Unbelievably sublime spot, tucked out of the way in San Juan Capistrano. Delicious French/Belgium food, under the canopy of happy trees, bathing finches, and lovely flowers. It's a spot that's out of place in what is otherwise a bustling downtown San Juan Capo, but so peaceful. We recommend the Mushrooms Maison and the bratwurst!
Really disappointed! The food was all over-cooked to the point it was inedible. The interior is cute but the tables are very small, good for 2 but not really for four persons. The outside seating looks great but be prepared for the train to come by periodically ruining the quiet and the cars and motorcycles on the street - which is 10 feet away - drown out any conversation. Parking is super difficult, be prepared to walk several blocks as the lot behind the restaurant is jammed. All in all, it was terrible and we will not be back.
It was a pleasant experience, Josh was a great server, food was properly prepared, and tasty. Chocolate tort was awesome.
Had Pate, salad, and entree. All were delicious! Like the fact they offered "petite" entrees at a discounted price vs the normal menu entrees. Plenty of food if you have an appetizer and a salad. We'll be back!
Such a charming family owned restaurant, always impeccable service, romantic and inviting, and the food is fantastic.
Been coming to L'Hirondelle since the early days of Walter, Raymonde and Wayne. It's ALWAYS been a VERY SPECIAL place for us, our Children and now our Grand-Children. The food is excellent (both lunch and dinner)...Service great...and ambiance, so lovely.
An incredible find nestled right across from the beautiful mission. Very warm European setting and fabulous food and service. You are treated like family. Even the warm spinach with bacon was to die for. A must to experience

This quaint French Restaurant is a neighborhood gem. We have been going there for years and it has never disappointed. The owner Ali is wonderful! His staff Liana and Josh always make you feel at home. It is a family owned restaurant and we have ordered everything from the French onion soup, pate to lamb chops, filet mignon and Beef Bourguignon. The quality and flavors of the selections are always fresh, tender and delicious. And then there's the dessert to top off your meal. So delicious and sumptuous. We love love love this restaurant! We are Regulars. Now our little secret is out on Open Table.
We had a very lovely experience sitting outside by the fountain for our anniversary. This is my husband's favorite French restaurant in the area. We highly recommend it.
A warm reception, a beautiful garden setting, impeccable service and a delicious selection of our favorite French entrees.
Mushroom appetizer was great. Filet Mignon seemed like it was cooked low and slow - no crust and generally mushy. Duck and sole were ok. Great outdoor space.
L'Hirondelle is tucked away near the railroad track in San Juan Capistrano. I discovered it while dining at another restaurant nearby. The atmosphere is charming and the wait-staff is very friendly. I had the house salad and duck with orange sauce. Everything was delicious. My husband and I recently moved to the area and will definitely be going back to L'Hirondelle regularly.
