Probably the best hidden secret sushi spot in north county. Kuro-san is a excellent chief takes pride in all his creations. Easy to talk to, share a drink or even a good joke. Everything is delicious. Sushi is not rushed and should be enjoyed slowly, This not fast food. Service is good, but, when busy might take a little time. They feeling you get when walking is. Kuro is taking you to his world and you need to soak it all in. And Enjoy!!

The food was good the first time via take out. But the more I showed up the worse it got. Red tuna, 3 pieces of tempura, and an egg in the udon. No I get Dark days old tuna, 1 piece of tempura, no egg. As an ex sushi chef that's speaks Japanese I don't understand why quality and quantity would go down because this place really was tasty. How sad.

To the review by Caleb T., the self proclaimed "yelper" who left a 2 star review: Your review, and ability to judge sushi is highly suspect, because you started off with a California, and Philly roll. Any roll with cream cheese is only on the menu to appease the rookies who love the overpowering taste of cream cheese better than they like the beautiful subtleties of fish. You would be hard pressed to find any halfway respectable sushi house, anywhere in Japan that included cream cheese in any of their offerings. Also noteworthy was your lack of ordering anything an aficionado would order' like Aji, Uni, or Amaebi; which by the way, are all excellent here. Your comment on how small the rolls were is a telling sign that you have no idea what you are talking about. Proper sushi is made to be bite size, not some Texas sized, monstrous wheel of slop that the crappy, run of the mill, Americanized sushi factories, that you apparently frequent, churn out to hide their low grade fish. As for the quality, I don't known if you were unlucky, or just don't know what you're talking about; I suspect it is the later, or you had some kind of beef with the staff. Why else would you write such a lengthy overly wordy, multi-paragraphed soliloquy. Stick to what you know, and please never bother to leave a sushi review again. Good day, sir!

Delicious small spot. Chef is an anime fan which is always a plus haha. Can tell it's authentic and the quality of the fish is superb. If you're in a hurry, may not be best spot to eat at, but if you've got the time for a nice meal - the sashimi, sushi, curry are all delicious. Can't wait to try more items next time !

If you're looking for great Japanese-style sushi, then Hyuga is your spot. I was surprised to see some lower ratings from other Yelpers, but after reading through their comments, it's hard to believe that they have experience with Japanese cuisine. Overall, for a small shop in San Marcos, I'm always excited to eat at Hyuga because the taste and texture is always on point. The staff is very friendly, and the owner is very gentle and appreciative of his guests. Sending out 5 Stars for my review because Hyuga is worthwhile to experience, even if it's just once.

It's always a great experience, especially at a sushi restaurant to know the owner/ chef! It's great to meet Master Kuro and receive great service and great sushi specialties!

A small sushi place run by a family. Rolls were great. I can't say nigiri sushi was the best. We also enjoyed other dinner plates like Katsu Curry and small dishes.

Very good food and friendly service! Must try the agedashi tofu. New to San Marcos, and I think we just found a go to Japanese restaurant in the area.

Prices have gone up significantly thats not worth some basic sushi. If this were a high-end place, the prices would he worth it.

Excellent rainbow roll. Perfect excellent Soft shell crab roll. AWESOME sashimi, ALL the sashimi was beyond tasty. Perfect. Shrimp tempura rolls were totally tasty and perfect. Sashimi came with the most interesting and wildly spicy wasabi I have ever eaten in my life.

Very authentic Japanese food that tastes really good and at reasonable prices. Portions are very generous and filling. Will be back next time I'm in San Marcos.
