Best croissants on the peninsula! There's the one place in SF that everyone talks about, but Backhaus is absolutely equal (or a very close second). Highly recommend the plain and also chocolate croissants. Came on a weekday and there was no line or wait. If you are looking for authentic, European style pastries, this is the place to go!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️=Solid (1=Avoid, 3=Standard, 5=Can't Miss!). Is it the best croissant in the Bay area? Debatable, but it's dependable! I think the staple offering here are their loaves more so than the pastries. Avoid peak hours in the morning, but the lines aren't as long anymore so that's a relief. Parking is a bit challenging for the downtown San Mateo area in general. There isn't anywhere to sit so plan on grabbing your coffee and baked goods...
