Our first trip had some good things and not so good things. The Good: Food tasted good-appetizers-pumpkin hummus was very good. Tres leches was delicious too. Cocktail menu had some unique drinks with fun presentation. Server was knowledgeable and attentive. Prices were very reasonable. The Not So Good: Appearance indicate they run lean-took almost 5 minutes for a "host/hostess" to acknowledge we were waiting to check in for our reservation. There were empty tables with dishes piled up as we walked to our table. There was not a lot of salsa with the chips and salsa appetizer. For at least 3 of our entrees, we did not receive our rice and beans that was supposed to come with our meal. We realized this after we had left. Restroom looked in need of some tiding up. Note: they do have some vegetarian and a couple of vegan items on their menu.

First time. Met up with a friend haven't seen a while and 'starving' for some good Mexican food. Attracted by the high review ratings and thought to check out a new place. Room was super energetic aka noisy & loud (understandably so w World Series going on a Friday evening) but not conducive to conversations. Ordered one salad to share and entree for each of us. 1 margarita and 1 non-alcoholic beverage. Salad was fresh. Decent entree portion; veg was mushy; flavor average. Service was good. Check total was $110 for two + tips. More a place for group meetup due to 'noise' factor. Also, many other options for more flavorable Mexican food at lower price in San Mateo.

The menu and dinner were very uninspiring. It would be difficult to recommend this restaurant as offering anything unique.

Great food and good for birthdays. They will cut and plate your cake for free. Very friendly staff

Good food, simple yet delicious! Had the carnitas plate, did a good job keeping the natural flavor of the pork.

We love Flores! I dream about the carnitas. The staff is always really accommodating with my small children, which I really appreciate.

If you are a local business trying to organize a large dinner here, save yourself the headache as they were able to accommodate our party but absolutely over charged and took advantage in every way possible…

This was a very nice place to have a dinner. The food and service were exceptional. And the ambiance has a very chill vibe. We will certainly be back.

Not sure how this place arrived at its current four stars, it's much better than its rating would have you think. Drinks are well made (more affordable than most in the area--mezcal margarita with premium ingredients is only $14), food is artisanal Mexican and high quality, service is great and always easy to get a table. I'm reluctant to even post this lest the secret get out, but it deserves steady business.

Flavor of the food was just okay. Not enough spice and no heat.
I wouldn't recommend for authentic Latin food.

Why do I have to pay 4% of my bill for your employee’s training? Nope. Not done. And the service was below mediocre.

Flores is a more upscale Latin restaurant located on the outer edge of the Hillsdale mall complex (not inside the mall). Parking is in the mall structure right across the street which makes it easy to access. The interior is modern and sexy with a good sized outdoor dining area as well. The service was good and attentive throughout the evening. Even the manager came around to check in with the outside tables which I like.
The menu has a good variety of Latin dishes that also includes some vegetarian options.
We started with the Sikil Pak appetizer - mayan pumpkin seed hummus with spiced jicama slices, and for some reason small lettuces (menu says lettuce wraps)... we found the lettuce part to be useless. But, the spiced jicama with the hummus was light and tasty.
We both then ordered the mole poblano with chicken - a leg quarter with rice and a flavorful mole to work with. I have had better mole in my life experiences, but this was very good. Nice spiciness and the chicken was tender.
Overall, a good meal for both of us on a Sunday evening.
