I came here because my go to sushi place was closed. I didn’t really like what I ordered. California rolls tasted good, but the other sushis I ordered didn’t taste fresh at all. The bento box they have at lunch time is good for the price. Won’t be going

Sushi NOT fresh! Even the maguro (tuna) tasted (and looked) funny. Shrimp (ebi) had to be at least 3 days old and tasted as such.Ordered 1st of 2 lunch specials, indicating "Chef's Special Roll", which was nothing more than a CA roll. Other special was exactly the same thing! When I mentioned it, they looked at me as of I was stupid. Had they advertised the "special roll" as a simple CA roll, I would have gone elsewhere for conveyer belt quality sushi! Will NOT be coming back.

This place is a find. Very old building, maybe former burger joint, very warm atmosphere. Rolls and sushi are excellent, well priced, and portions are BIG. Friendly staff, fast service. I love this place.

Not real great sushi here. Their website is very nice and leaves one with the impression that this place is fancy, it is not. Very casual atmosphere. The service was better than average; servers were surprisingly attentive. Food came quickly. So let's talk about the food.....Too much fake crab and crab salad on the sushi rolls. Many of the rolls are large simply because they pack them with the fake crab salad. If that's your thing then great for you this is your place. If you really know great food and great sushi, go some other place. Kind of a let down for us. Ordered 5 rolls, gyoza, and grilled salmon belly. The salmon belly was probably the tastiest thing we had but you wouldn't be missing out if you did not order any rolls here.

This sushi place may look like your typical corner sushi joint, but it is actually very authentic. In addition to their delicious sushi, they also offer Korean dishes that are worth trying out. What surprised me the most is that they have gluten-free soy sauce and several gluten-free options on their menu. I have been a loyal customer for the past three years, and I must say that the atmosphere and environment inside the restaurant are pretty nice. The staff is also awesome and very kind, which adds to the overall experience.

Visited for a Sunday dinner (no wait) with friends. We enjoyed the massive sushi portions and the fish quality was good for the price.

Old Town Sushi is a great place to enjoy Japanese food in a cozy and friendly atmosphere. The restaurant offers a variety of dishes, from sushi and sashimi to teriyaki and katsu. The portions are generous and the prices are reasonable. The service is fast and attentive, and the staff are kinda in a hurry.I ordered the Number 1 Roll, which is a spicy tuna roll topped with salmon, avocado, and tobiko. It was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. The roll was cut into eight pieces and served with ginger, wasabi, and soy sauce. The presentation was beautiful and appetizing. I also tried the Chicken Teriyaki, which came with rice, salad, and miso soup. The chicken was tender and juicy, and the teriyaki sauce was sweet and savory. The rice was fluffy and the salad was crisp. The miso soup was warm and comforting. The restaurant is old, with old wooden tables and chairs, and a bunch of paper on the walls. The music was soft and relaxing, and the lighting was ok because we went there early. The restaurant was clean and not well-maintained. There was closing street right in front of the restaurant but we were lucky to find parking close by.It is one of the sushi places in San Mateo.

We came specifically for the owner’s son. Funny experience. When we were waiting for the new Malatang store, we met a friendly and nice little boy in front of the restaurant. We played the throwing bean bag games together and he was humorous. We first thought he was also a customer waiting like us, but after some chitchat, he introduced he’s from Old Town Sushi restaurant, and recommended us. So, a few days after, here we are.The store is well decorated and spacious. The staff are very friendly and quick. We ordered some dishes and it was served shortly after. Too bad that the fresh oysters have run out. The sashimi and sushi are good and fresh. The frilled squid is very delicious. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the udon. It wasn’t like the typical udon that I know. Depends on what you order but an udon dish usually consists of seaweed, chopped scallions, tempura fritters, a type of meat you choose and udon noodles. The broth contains dashi, soy sauce and mirin.I was kind of disappointed when there’s cabbage and carrots in the soup, and the broth tasted differently. They even leave the shrimp tempura in the soup, which made it less crispy. Less delicious.Kid-friendliness: High chairsParking: Plenty of parking slot if you go to any public parking lots. The restaurant is located on San Mateo walking street, so no parking near the store.
