FOOD 3.5
We shared an order of fries and a pastrami sandwich. The pastrami was sliced thick and very tender with slaw, pickles, and pickled onions on toasted rye bread. Crazy Russian dressing served on the side. Sandwich is a 4.5. One of the better pastrami sandwiches I’ve had in the Bay Area. French fries came out really fast, so it almost seems like they were pre-fried instead of fried to order. 2.5 for the fries

Very attentive server who repeated our order verbatim for clarification. A few guys came to check up on us throughout our meal. Appreciated that.

We sat outside and enjoyed the vibe. Beer menu is extensive and a bit overwhelming.
OVERALL 3.5
Would totally come back when jonesing for a pastrami sando and to try some of the other food. The place is known for its pastrami, though.

Great food. Great beer selection, but on the pricey side.

We found plastic in one of our salads. Though they made us another one, we were very surprised that they still charged us for the new salad. Also it’s a bit ridiculous that a large chain like the Refuge needs to tack on a 3% credit card processing fee.
Slow service, food other than the salad was decent.

Great spot to grab a bite to eat. Fish and chips were delish.
Best pastrami I have ever had, hands down. Tender juicy and so scrumptious. All the side dishes that I have tried are also amazing, and they have fantastic desserts as well. The bread pudding is pretty famous, but they also have a great chocolate dessert.
Overall a good place and someplace you can take your dog with the outside seating, though there is traffic nearby which does not make it quiet outside.

Others have raved about the pastrami sandwiches from here, so perhaps this is worth a revisit to try those instead. I tried the grilled cheese and tomato soup and was a bit disappointed. The cheese was overwhelming and oily and the soup too watery to dip the sandwich in. The dish came with fries, which didn't compliment the meal.
However, the atmosphere is nice and staff friendly, so this is definitely worth a revisit!

Pastrami is the best! Comprehensive beer selection and its niice to get a sample before selecting your beer. Inflation has definitely invaded the menu. They are great with kids too! I'd say the fries could use an upgrade.
