Literally the worst ramen I have ever had in Northern California and in general. Broth tasted like it was burned.

I paid for extra meat for the spicy wagu ramen and although the dish was really spicy and really good I don’t feel like I got a food value for what I paid for. For 3 items nearly $35? Expensive.

I ordered the Bento Box with Chicken Teriyaki and Prok Tonkatsu. Very delicious foods at reasonable prices! The place is very clean and friendly staff!

Great place to eat. Nobody around. Atmosphere is quiet but place is small. Service is great. Smiles all the way. Average dish is $14-16 a bowl.

I think my date and I must have been unlucky dining here, as what we were served missed the mark. We each got different items. He got the spicy miso and I got the curry ramen. Based on prior curry ramens, I expected a light miso-curried broth with standard scallions, a soft-boiled egg sliced in half, and maybe some menma (bamboo shoots). In the past, orders of ramen (spicy/miso/curry) usually come topped with a slice or two of chachu. When I did not see any protein noted as an ingredient for the curry ramen, I ordered a side of chachu for my curry ramen. What I was served: A side plate of sliced chachu getting cold and a bowl of very thick curry gravy with noodles, loaded with crinkle-cut fries that were already starting to get soggy from the gravy. There were also some deep-fried frilly bits that I think were supposed to be karaage (deep-fried chicken bits), but I can't be certain. A very heavy meal. Maybe if had a hangover, it might have worked. But I was very hungry and hoping for a more traditional ramen dish. Those fries, I don't know whose idea that was. If they wanted to do an unconventional ramen, topping it with 'ramen fries' would have been a more interesting choice. After I picked out the pile of crinkle-cut fries and batter-fried whatever that was, because neither was tasty and both were soggy and too greasy, all that was left in my bowl were some noodles in the thick curry gravy with bamboo shoots. I took a couple of bites of noodles and one of my cold chachu and lost my appetite. I was finished with my meal. My date ordered fried gyoza and he did not finish those; he found his spicy miso to not be spicy while lacking flavor. He did like the noodles, though! So, two bowls of substandard ramen that neither of us enjoyed, a side of chachu and gyoza that both, unfortunately, went to waste, all washed down with one large bottle of beer that we shared that was the only tasty part of the meal = $68 with tip. No stars for the meal, but three stars for the nice and kind people that work here. Very nice and cheerful crew. It's going to be trek for quality ramen. Edit Note: My dish barely resembled a 2019 photo I just saw - I read the restaurant is under different ownership post-pandemic. That may explain the experience we had. :(

I had a delicious dinner from Chonmage last night. I've meant to try them for ages, and I'm so glad I finally did. I got the spicy miso ramen without meat, and damn, it was good. Chonmage is the only restaurant I've visited in San Rafael that makes something described as spicy as well... appropriately spicy. Typically, I need to visit restaurants in Marin multiple times and get to know the servers a bit before they give me something that brings the heat. That's not the case here! :) I asked for my dish not to have meat, and they substituted a nice amount of tofu. The broth was rich, flavorful without being too salty, and perfectly cloudy. I usually ask for chili oil to add to my ramen, but I didn't do that here and wouldn't have needed it. The noodles were cooked well, and the veggies were fresh. I ordered takeout and the customer service over the phone, and when I picked it up, it was very welcoming and friendly. The restaurant looks cute, and I look forward to returning and eating here in person.

Best ongiri my brothers love it, and spicy ramen! The broth is so tasteful. I also love the Mango Sticky Rice! Super satisfying to look at! The owners are super nice. It's also cozy that you can enjoy eating a dish by yourself like I have and see the movie posters and beautiful lanterns on the wall! Great service!

Not fancy and absolutely delicious place. I got a ramen combo and it was the right amount of proteins for one meal.

The Sasuke Ramen was delicious! My friends had the Spicy Miso Ramen and the Chicken Ramen. The Service was very quick and there is plenty of seating for individuals or small groups. Whichever one you decide to try, it will be delicious!

As a 40 year old man, I love looking back at the good ol days any chance I get! This place right here does that. The sweet and spicy tang that comes from the broth brings me back to when I was just a boy. The service is nothing short of just amazing, as the people are very welcoming and really make the place whole. The ambiance is just so beautiful and welcoming. I can't stress enough how great this place and how it just brings such youthful bliss. Thank you Chonmage.
