Sage did the food and bar for our wedding at Outdoor Art Club and everything was absolutely delicious, especially the incredible salmon! We knew we wanted to work with Sage from the start, so I didn’t realize until later that most places let you do a tasting before booking. Sage doesn’t, and we actually couldn’t do our tasting until just a few months before our date. Based on the creativity of their menu and so many great reviews I didn’t worry though - and am happy to add another to the list of people saying the same thing! The food was excellent, fresh, and creative, and many people have raved to me about the salmon.
The experience working with them was also very good - during cocktail hour they made sure my husband and I got appetizers, even bringing us a plate with a couple of each, which was so appreciated. They also did an excellent job with the bar, even figuring out changes on the fly - my dad wanted one of our signature drinks that was grapefruit based, without the grapefruit. They made a lemon version for him in the moment, and then remembered just what to make him each time he came back!
We did need to order all the tableware rentals and alcohol ourselves, however Meredith was an excellent partner through the planning process, and guided us really well on what we needed, and how much of everything to get. We picked out the styles we wanted with the rental company and then she worked with our planner and the rental company to handle the order details and quantities of everything, something I wouldn’t have known where to start with. They also provided all the fresh juices and garnishes for the bar. Our venue also had tricky drop off and pick up requirements, and she executed all of that seamlessly.
Thank you to Sage for a wonderful wedding dinner!
So, we had always thought that for our wedding the dinner wouldn’t be a big to-do—we just wanted people to get fed so they could have enough energy to go dance. Our wedding venue has a list of about a dozen approved caterers, and we went with Sage because it fit our budget—they came in at about half the price of other caterers on the list. So imagine our surprise when we arrived at our tasting a couple of months before the wedding and every dish blew us away with the quality of the ingredients and craft of preparation.
Meredith and the Sage team are so thoughtful about producing a menu that takes advantage of the best in-season produce and other high-quality ingredients, and even when cooking for over 180 people everything is prepared to perfection. We really feel like we struck gold working with Sage—many of our foodie-est friends were telling us that it was the best wedding food they’d ever had.
We also appreciated that Sage was very accommodating for our vegan and gluten free guests, and that their family style options include many dishes that are already vegan/gluten free, ensuring that nobody was short of options for delicious food.
Sage also helped us realize our vision for our bar menu, helping provide fresh lime and lemon juice for our signature cocktails and providing skillful bartenders to keep all our guests satisfied. Our day-of catering manager also did a fantastic job making sure we were fed and happy, bringing us appetizers while we were signing our marriage license, checking in with us during dinner to make sure we had everything we needed, and even preparing to-go boxes for us in case we were hungry at the end of the night.
We’re confident Sage is offering better food and service than many caterers that are twice the price. We’re so happy we chose them for our wedding!
As a total foodie and hospitality addict, entrusting a catering team for our daughters high school graduation garden party was a high bar. After our event, I felt compelled to write a review for others that may be on the search for a high caliber yet creative and proficient catering service options in the Bay Area. This is the only choice when considering a complete catering experience for your event. Sage was recommended to me by a dear friend and event planner. They were attentive, highly competent and efficient in options, communication and most importantly EXCEEDED all expectations (which those that know me often agree mine can be a bit unrealistic) on the day of the event in both professionalism and INCREDIBLE food quality, presentation and overall event success. For the first time, literally EVER, I was truly a guest at my own event. From assisting me with rentals to menu and flow, Meredith, Shinaide, and the entire team from planning, cooking , bartending and execution were the best professionals in the industry.
If you are considering catering for your event, do yourself a favor and call them and then trust them with every detail.
Sage catered our wedding, and did a phenomenal job!! We worked with Meredith from start to finish. Meredith is quite literally a gem. She was so, so helpful to us, as we were planning our own wedding and had no idea what we were doing. Her advice and insider knowledge was invaluable. Thank you Meredith!! You are the GOAT. In regards to the food, simply spectacular! We had comments from multiple guests raving that we had the best wedding food they ever had. They even complimented the lemonade that Sage prepared as a welcome beverage! Our only complaint is we wish we could eat and experience the food twice, since we were so busy as the bride and groom!
Kudos to Sage Catering! They dished up an outstanding menu at my daughter's wedding this fall, all done over charcoal to comply with the State of California's regulations for a state park. One might have thought it would have been difficult to live up to the magical, fairytale setting of a redwood forest with food to match, but Sage Catering rose to the occasion. Guests raved about the tenderloin of beef and bacon wrapped prawn brochettes, not to mention the heirloom tomatoes and burrata, gougeres, and little gem wedge salad. Nor did it bother them that the reception began one hour later than expected due to a blackout. Working with Scot was like hiring a wedding planner. He has a wonderful sixth sense about what to do with a space, personally visited the venue beforehand, and took care of all the rentals. I am grateful for his insights, advice, and recommendations. The wedding is over, but the food will live on in memory. Many thanks, Scot, for your contribution to a perfect day!
