We had a very long tiring trip through the mountains just to get to our lodge in Lucia because we had to avoid the landslide closure on Hwy 1. It was exhausting driving, then 2 hours at the Hearst Castle where you aren’t allowed to eat or drink anything. .. no coffee anywhere on our route… just to find out the castle cafe was closed when we got back from the tour. I said all that to say this.. The young man behind the counter was closing and the look on my face must have spoke to him because he quickly told me he would make us food and me an Americana.. first his kindness brought tears to my tired eyes and secondly that coffee was THE BEST I’ve had. The hot sandwiches and fresh salad were delicious and the portions were large. We took half of it back up the lodge to eat later. This one decision by him to accommodate me and my grandsons completely turned this stressful day into a much better one. The cafe and store were clean, bathrooms were clean and easily accessible. The staff were friendly and helpful and the area around the cafe and store is peaceful and attractive. Plenty of parking and the walkways were easy to navigate. I highly recommend this establishment and look forward to visiting again.

Karen (the nice one) is an exceptional "welcome wagon" and outstanding ambassador for this historic general store across the street from Hearst Castle. She is a WEALTH of information; most deserving of a raise. Not Kidding. Assuredly, I purchased MUCH more due to her earnest fandom, outstanding recommendations and specific shoutouts within the store. Your dog is welcome to accompany you into the store. Big dogs. Wow! Super helpful.... Thereafter, there are delicious salads/food options and Hearst wine offerings to enjoy on their shaded outdoor deck. Epic burgers from the food truck on weekends! Can't wait for our next visit!

We enjoyed our meal at Sebastian’s, even if the smash burgers were a little too salty. The location, close to the coast, with Hearst Castle visible on the hilltop was nice. Cute little gift shop and wine tasting. Everything was reasonably priced. The staff was very friendly. Will be back but try something other than the smash burger.

Great food!!! so good.. the restroom was extreamly clean and modern. Great place to be. Unfortunately, I waited 30 min. and finally got my kimchi pork sandwich but my friends waited 50 min. but it was not ready and they were not even working on it. We cancelled the order. very angry and very hungry. the food is very tasty and people are very kind.

Best deli sandwiches in the area!! My girlfriend loved her "tuna salad" sandwich, and she's very particular with her seafood.
The "Kimchi Pork" sandwich is out of this world. 100/10 I'm sad there is nothing around me at home that even comes close.
Oh, and I guess there is a gift shop. Perfect to buy a beer to eat along your sandwich.

Stopped to check it out while cruising through Big Sur. Wasn't super impressed but it wasn't a terrible experience. Employees aren't super friendly but will answer questions if asked, prices were high but to be expected for the location, and portions weren't large. I ordered the Pork sandwich, after 15min of waiting they call me to the counter to tell me they ran out of the pork. I had to pick another option, went with the meatloaf sandwich. We also ordered the Burrata salad, added protein, pretty small. Next time I would probably drive a little further south and find somthing else.
