This is one of the OG lobster spot in SoCal. Get in ...get your food eat and go pretty much. All business...quick service because they want to move everyone for the next customers...usually ,there is a line on the weekends...they do take reservations. No frills here...juat been darn solid for over 2 decades of eating here. Are they perfect?? NO!!! Twice i been here they been off their game BUT thats in 2 decades of eating here...in total..likely over 20 to 30 times. Highly recommended house lobster over garlic noodles!!

The food was rather disappointing. Not very flavorful in just about all the dishes we ordered. Lobster in the lobster noodle was tough. I never had lobster that tough before.

The food and otherwise the service is fine. However when ordering it is listed as market price, but the market price is not listed anywhere for you to refer to. So depending on the current prices of that season you could be paying for a lot more than you bargained for. Further, it is priced per pound but the servers do not elaborate how many pounds or what a functional serving size is per person in your party. I recommend going here if you just got it like that or you like the mystery but if you want to be an informed customer than I recommend either doing your due diligence or staying away.

My son picked this Tan Cang Restaurant, not to be confused with the one down the street, for his birthday dinner with some of the family. Ordered everything from the House Specialty Lobster to French Beef with Fried Rice & Noodles & Vegetables etc. What a wonderful experience with the Owners, Staff and Food! You've GOT to try this place! I assure you, you won't be disappointed!

Fried squid is tough, not easy to eat! Thailand soup is bad!
They did not show lobster live (or died?) to the customers while charged $33 usd per pound for one lobster cost $250 usd.

Tan Cang Newport Seafood is always on my must-eat list when I’m in Irvine!
We got there a little after 5pm and luckily didn’t have to wait in line. As soon as we sat down, I noticed almost every table had the lobster—it looked amazing and definitely lived up to the hype.

Our recommendations:
• Lobster with Yee Mein – The star of the night! The noodles had such a unique texture—smooth yet slightly chewy—and soaked up the sauce perfectly. The lobster was super clean, easy to eat by hand (no tools needed), and packed with meat. Even the smallest portion was huge—we couldn’t finish and brought some home, and it was still delicious reheated. Best part? The price is unbeatable, around $100+ for 3–4 people.
• Fish Ball Soup – Simple but so fresh. The fish balls had a firm bite, and the broth had a texture almost like shark fin. A splash of vinegar made it even better!
• Stir-Fried Oysters – First time trying oysters this way. They had a bit of that natural brininess, but paired really well with rice. A fun dish to try if you like something different.

Overall, a must-try spot with generous portions and great value.

The food was absolutely lovely and worth the money! The lobster noodles are a must at this place. The wait can be long due to how busy the restaurant is so arrive early!
