Even with no reservation, we were welcomed kindly by the maitre d'. All the servers were professional and polite. Food was amazing. Gourmet...beautifully presented. Had a relaxing and delicious meal.

My wife and I were looking for a special place to have a fun dinner in Santa Barbara we chose Louise based on the reviews and the location when we got there the place is really cute and small very cozy for a romantic dinner but that's where it ended the service was really average and not very warm and inviting we struggle to find a good wine on the menu and finally settled on a wine we got a brief description of some of the specials at that night and my wife ordered a shrimp crab salad you would think that a restaurant that featured a salad like that would make it special but it was anything that special the roommate Romain lettuce looked old and it was canned shredded crab on top of the salad which was not very good at all considering it is crab season and there's plentiful crab available from the wholesalers I'm surprise the chef which should choose them to feature the salad and use such average ingredients I ordered the tomato salad with Gorgonzola and pinenuts and basil drizzled in a good dressing however the tomatoes were the cheap rockhard tomatoes that you would get at the grocery store there was nothing good about the tomatoes they were not flavorful and this was their most expensive salad I ordered the fillet of soul it was very bland and average served over a rice noodle base which was very gooey and not very flavorful my wife ordered the soup of the day which was asparagus soup which was extremely bland nothing special one thing that I asked for was wild mushroom risotto as a side dish the risotto was not prepared properly and they over cheesed the risotto to make up for the lack of creaminess from a properly made risotto on top of that for a small scoop of risotto they charged us $17.50 which I thought was outrageous I do not recommend this restaurant at allIt has seen better days

Wow! Brought my wife here on Valentine's Day, and both of us could not be more satisfied w our meals and the service. The food is DELICIOUS! We are still sitting here waiting for the dessert and we are discussing when we will be back. Can't wait.

Wonderful service and food!

Whilst a little out of the way, in suburbia, this actually is part of its charm. Lovely 'old world charm', service was very good & food excellent!

One of the best restaurants in town. Unfussy, excellent food and outstanding service.

Very nice place with good food and service

Everything we sampled was really delicious. Service is good. Indoor dining is elegant, but take a table on the veranda of this lovely old building. We will return. Recommended dining in SB.

My colleagues and I have been coming here for the past 10 years annually. Also a few times over the year I have spent time here with the hubby. We stayed in the B&B and ate in this restaurant. The quality and taste has been consistently good. Love the simplicity and British Garden feel of the place. My favorite over the years has been the chicken with puff pastry and the Louie Crab Salad. My visit last week with my group was no different. The place was a nice sanctuary serving delicious food and Oreo's and milk at bedtime.

Very nice classic atmosphere and great service, it has so much potential. The food is the let down. "Innovative combinations" seem quite dated. Asian rice noodles were in a glob with a bland sauce under a piece of over cooked fish. Salad was also quite bland and underwhelming. This was my second visit, same impression.

Delicious, freshly prepared food served by a charming waiter who had the attitude of service creating a memorable night. The restaurant itself has old world charm with beautiful white linens & seating inside or outside on a porch. It felt like going home again.

Such a lovely historical Santa Barbara venue dating back to the 1870’’s! I love dining on the patio. The staff are gracious, and I adore their cuisine. Yum! I am craving their Crab Louie. Great lamb too

This was attached to the hotel we were staying at, The Upham, but I was advised it was a completely separate business. So we turned up, no reservation, but was seated promptly on the veranda. Having spent all day walking up and down State St, we wer not amazingly hungry. My wife had Filet Mignon, $38, which was excellent. I had the Fettuccini, which was OK. Service was prompt and friendly, but nothing over the top. All in all a good experience. I would recommend.

Excellent food, fantastic service, in a beautiful setting. My husband and I ate here, as we stayed in the attached historic hotel, once owned by Abraham Lincoln's cousin. We ate outside on the wrap around porch enjoying the evening. Husband enjoyed his lamb and said the mint topping was the best he's ever had. It was a mint and balsamic reduction sauce, not sweet, like the usual mint jelly that often accompanies lamb. I had a pasta dish which was delicious. Highly recommend!

We found this place at random on Yelp. We were looking for a place that away from the fray of State St. It was incredible. Every aspect was beyond our expectations. The seafood was incredibly fresh. The tomato salad is one I'm still trying to recreate at home. The portion sizes were not stingy. The historic building it's located in was charming.

Situated next to the beautiful Upham Hotel, we started our evening with wine, crabmeat dumplings, along with shrimp and scallop cakes on the patio. For an entree I chose the rack of lamb in a wine reduction sauce that was cooked exactly how I wanted it. My wife had the grilled Scottish salmon with orange chutney that she said was exceptional. For dessert we had a slice of lemon meringue and apple pie that they said were limited time items. The service was perfect.....we didn’t feel rushed and they seemed to appreciate our business. Can’t wait to go back next time in Santa Barbara!

Left field choice slightly out of the centre in a residential area attached to the Upham Hotel. Reviews suggested this would be a fine dining experience in a quiet relaxed environment which appealed.Had trouble getting a reservation, on line bookings did not appear to be taken and when contacting the Upham to see if they could assist (restaurant on their property, so you'd think they would be more helpful than they were) it was like talking to a brick wall.I was all for blowing them out and finding somewhere else but my partner wanted to try it so we eventually got our pro-active and helpful hotel to make advance reservations - take note Upham front desk!Restaurant is homespun, up-market Cracker Barrel decor and seemed very popular with locals who all appeared to know each other, including the staff.Menu is not extensive but looked promising. The promise seemed to ring true as my appetizer was truly delicious. Based on that dining delight, I was looking forward to my main. However, this was a disaster. It smelt and tasted wrong on every level and I had a couple of mouthfuls and couldn't eat anymore, truly awful. I chose wrong but my partner enjoyed their appetizer and main so it was a meal of two stories, good and bad.The waiter was very pleasant as was the service. He offered to bring me something else to eat, I had a bland Caesar's (should of had another of the delicious appetizers!). We shared a desert and that was very good but it was all just a disappointing dining experience.

A small, intimate and wonderful restaurant with excellent food, good service and fair prices. You can carry on a conversation with your companion and not be drowned out by loud people around you. One gets the feeling that only the locals know where this place is located and they do not want to let the secret out.

Talk about charm! We had lunch on the patio and the service was excellent and the food was delicious. If you opt for dinner, sit inside. Elegant and very romantic.

Five Stars! Under new ownership since the beginning of May, this was an amazing dining experience with delicious food, wonderful service, and fun atmosphere. Highly recommend!

On our first evening at the Upham, my husband and I had dinner at the on-property Louie's California Bistro. My husband had the Parmesan Crusted Chicken Breast on Angel Hair with Tomato Garlic Concasse, Asparagus and Gorgonzola Cheese, and I had the Linguine with Grilled Shrimp, Tomatoes, Kalamata Olives, Spinach and Feta Cheese. The food was delicious and the service was attentive. We had a lovely evening.

I wanted to post a food pic but it looked so good I couldn't stop. Service treated us so nice. Prices are appropriate for the quality. Menu is like a cafe in Indianapolis I loved.

I love this cute little spot for lunch or a romantic dinner. It's small and charming and the food is always yummy. I love that it is named after a golden retriever :) The chef has been there for 20+ years which is pretty amazing in of itself. I have tried many things on the menu, but have to say that the rack of lamb is to die for. Sitting on the porch during a warm summer night is one of my favorite things to do. You can take your time, enjoy some wine and spread your meal out over a few hours. Love this place!

This bistro was exactly what I needed after a crazy day. Elegant and tucked into the corner of a hotel, this was a slow food experience that let me wind down and enjoy. The wine and food lists are small but have something for everyone, specials are offered and I chose to indulge in the lamb and was incredibly happy that I did. Service was unobtrusive but very responsive to our needs. The quiet atmosphere was perfect for catching up with old friends. We enjoyed every minute of our long dinner and longer chat session that we felt welcomed to enjoy without rush or pressure.

The food--SUPERB! The service--WONDERFUL! A special shout-out to Patrick who assured us that our dog, Nellie, was welcome on the patio. He kept the heaters on, and the patio was very comfortable on a cold March evening. The waitress was also very sweet. This is definitely a place we will return to when we visit Santa Barbara. Did I mention that the food was amazing???!!

Still one of my favorites after many years.

Can not say enough good things about Louie! His food was over the top but his professionalism, responsiveness and general attitude towards my wedding was way above and beyond. He made my wedding day incredible and we had sooo many compliments on the food. I would 100% use him again for any event and would recommend to him to any bride. The food truck was a fun touch and perfect for our day.

Well, it's hard to compare this restaurant to others in Santa Barbara, but we are on a quest to try every place to eat in Santa Barbara. This place is amazing and should be on everybody's list of places to go. The ambiance is relaxing and elegant. The food is really creative and well thought out.

Food — Good bread is the first good sign. We had an excellent stir fry, meatloaf, and shared tiramisu for dessert. (Late lunch on Valentines Day.) The veggies were fresh and nicely crisp. All was tasty without being over-seasoned. Louie’s is intimate and quiet — you can hear each other! We’ll be back!

Louie’s is a small intimate restaurant attached to the Upham House B and B. The decor was festive for the holidays and the restaurant seats about 20 inside and has patio seating for nice weather. The staff are friendly and knowledabke. The food was creative and good. There was one dish we were not happy with, not their fault just our taste buds, so they took it back and off the bill. FYI it was the crabmeat dumplings. We have a love hate relationship with crab and it simply did not wor for us in the dumpling. I am sure others, crab lovers, will think it is increbke. I just wanted to share the story to highlight the customer services. We enjoyed the scallops appetizer and linguine with shrimp as a main. The banana dessert is unbelievable. We will go back just for this dessert that was a stuffed crisp filled with a cream and topped with bannasa and ice cream!!!!Overall a wonderful meal! Rachel and Pat were great staff that made our meal special.

On a recent trip, we came across this place on a side street close to our hotel. What a delightful restaurant. The food was outstanding as well as the service. Dinner options were varied. It was a bit cold out so we didn't get to enjoy the outdoor dining on the porches. The restaurant is part of a B&B and it's definitely on my list of places to stay the next time I travel to Santa Barbara. I highly recommend this restaurant.

The atmosphere is nice. The food is boring and bland. Insanely priced for how tasteless it is. Very disappointed.
