The flavors in this ice cream shop are very flavorful and unique. There are certain times of the day that the line is long but it’s worth coming here. I say that this ice cream shop stands out because of how they handcrafted ice cream. I’ve begin to wonder what ingredients they use to make ice cream like this, because I have gotta admit that they did a good job in preparing them. There are much flavors I still need to try lol

There is nowhere to eat your ice cream inside this shop so if it's raining good luck. The ice cream is high quality and there are some creative flavors however it is way too sweet... which may be your thing but definitely not mine...

Lavender honey is really only good flavor. Recommend getting a pint to skip the line in the summer

A really open space Salt and Straw in Valley Fair. The service has always been pretty friendly for me. The staff doesn't get irritated when you ask for multiple samples and always put in their two cents about the flavors they can't get enough of or find missing an extra oomph! On the weekends, there is usually a line, especially at night but it moves fairly fast. They are an organized and efficient bunch. I like how they have seasonal flavors. I am terribly invested in the holiday flavors for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. My favorites have been a turkey ice cream with crispy organic rotisserie chicken skin and duck fat, as well as a sweet potato and cranberry ice cream with cornbread chunks. They do have all the funky flavors like bone marrow ice cream that I am always dying to try but every flavor doesn't taste hit all the notes it promises, like a fancy beer.It is still one of my favorite salt & straw locations and they do sell pints if you are looking for better value.

I've been to a number of ice cream shops that offer unique or interesting flavors, but I'd argue this one is a remarkable choice. The flavors stand out, the ice cream doesn't run, and the service was excellent. Mikey really had an upbeat and personable attitude, and I hope he continues to do well. A rare server these days.

I'm feeling salty. Salt & Straw is a Portland-based ice cream company that has expanded all over the west coast. This is the 3rd location of theirs which I've tried. Although I would've preferred grabbing gelato inside Valley Fair proper, my friend was interested in trying the new February flavors, and I knew that I could +1 my Yelp review count anyway. This store is in a newer construction building with several restaurants. It's a pretty small storefront; they do not have seating or even anywhere elevated to stand with your ice cream. They do let you try samples before ordering, so I tasted all of the new flavors before making my decision. FYI, they are all chocolatey, and each flavor appears to be a collab with a different chocolatier. I went for a Double ($8.50) because it's only $2 higher than the single scoop ($6.50). I started with the Dandelion's Chocolate Nibs & Frangipane since the crunchy nibs were pretty addictive and the overall flavor was great. Then I ran into an issue with my bottom scoop, the Cloudforest's Cocoa Hazelnut Magic Sauce. I had sampled it and liked it, but didn't get a sensation of constant salt overload until I started digging into my order. I'm not sure whether it was a recipe or execution issue, but that was just way too rough, so I ended up tossing most of the scoop. By the way, make sure to grab napkins before leaving. Although I chose a cup and it wasn't a very warm day, the melted ice cream started to overflow before I was done with the first scoop. Salt & Straw is usually pretty great if not awesome, but I had a suboptimal experience this time around. Hopefully next time will be better.

Visited this location in December! There was a bit of a wait, but service was smooth and friendly. This is a take-out location only! With outdoor entrance -- not inside the mall. They had lots of flavours to choose from. I bought a pint to bring home: the Salted, Malted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough! It was delicious!

Amazing ice cream and the best service, hence why I keep coming back. Came to get my favorite classic flavors, honey lavender and olive oil, but also tried the January 2024 vegan themed specials while I visited. The staff member was incredibly kind and let us try all the new flavors we wanted. Thoughts on the flavors: Honey lavender - Such a difficult flavor profile to do justice and Salt & Straw does a great job! Their ice cream leans more lavender than honey for my preference (60:40), but it's a good balance overall. Olive oil - I think their recipe changed! The ice cream is now thicker and the olive oil taste is stronger. I prefer the old recipe, but it's still good. Toasted oat milk and cookies (Jan 2024) - It tastes just like eating oak milk and cookies! And it's vegan! Amazing. I just didn't order a scoop because I felt it would be too heavy. Red velvet (Jan 2024) - Wow the coconut cream in this is so overpowering that I just don't like it. Bananas foster (Jan 2024) - When I tell you this tastes amazing and accurate! Exactly what you would expect. It is a bit on the sweet side though. Death by chocolate cake (Jan 2024) - This is really good and chocolatey with cake chunks inside. Not as heavy as typical chocolate ice cream which is nice.

It's always fun seeing the new flavors they come out with, but my favorite will always be the sea salt caramel.
