Great food, often very busy when I've gone.

This is a full size to go roll that was $14.75. They packed it to go, not me. I think the pic speaks for itself.

Wish I could give an opinion on the sushi, service, or facilities, but I never had the chance to experience them. Stopped by on a Friday night, entered the door facing the street, and walked past four empty tables and approximately six empty seats at the bar. Waited in the back for the hostess, only to be told they weren’t accepting anymore walk ins. She was polite about it, but when I mentioned the empty seating, she just politely reiterated her former statement.
I understand that places get busy, especially on the weekend, but there was no line. There were empty tables. While they may have had reservations foe the rest of the evening, it’s a bad look to have so many empty seats and turn away guests. And if they were short on waitstaff, that stil doesn’t affect service at the bar.
I had read reviews that this was the best sushi in Santa Cruz. We traveled from Prunedale, 36 miles away. We should’ve made a reservation, which is why I didn’t leave one star. I wasn’t even going to leave a review except for the fact that I saw someone else leave a review with a very similar experience. Obviously this wasn’t a one time occurrence.
Sadly, I won’t get the opportunity to write a review for their food, service, or establishment because I won’t be returning.
My advice: make a reservation, because the hours of operation are fluid depending on the evening.
After visiting the Aptos location, my Seabright experience was not the best. We were glad to get a table despite it being a busy Friday night, but the environment was so noisy that my son and I struggled to enjoy our time together.
Additionally, it’s important that servers ensure they clearly hear and understand your order. My ten-year-old was served an adult bento box, which was far too much food for a child. Servers should clarify that first before placing the order as a courtesy. It also was slapped on a big plate instead of a traditional bento box.
Another concern was that the server did not inform us that the sake collar bone was full of bones. Luckily, my child didn't choke on one, since we weren't warned. The dish was tasty but slightly overcooked.
Overall, the food was decent. My tofu Donburi bowl was a little soggy and undercooked but still enjoyable. After sitting in a noisy atmosphere for over two hours, I don’t plan to return to this location. It could be a fun spot for an evening out with adult friends. It’s definitely not suitable for a date night or family outing.

The atmosphere was nice, but that’s the only positive. The sushi rice was undercooked, they forgot my soup, and the service was slow even though there were only a few
tables and three servers working. Definitely not worth coming back.

I was new to the area and wanted to try this place….no one wanted to take my order….waiting and waiting just for someone to ask if I was ready and no one asked…just walked on by….so I left….this place just lost a local resident, friends and families patronage.

A local gem in the city of Santa Cruz. Always good fresh fish, good service and fun atmosphere. Usually busy, but has a good takeout service as well.

It was super stuffy at the restaurant, we had to tell the staff to turn on the fan. The service is super slow here, didn't seem like they were efficient and we always had to call someone over. Wouldn't really recommend the place. We didn't realized until after we left but the server overcharged us for double the tempera combo. Check your recipients!!

I love this place. We stop in here when we're in town for the great service and excellent sushi. We love seared albacore, spicy scallops and yellowtail.
