Hidden gem. Noticeably high quality ingredients and great service. Even my Korean mom, who is germaphobic and difficult to impress, enjoyed her meal very much. Will be coming here again.

We ordered the oyster/uni (!), the baked scallop roll (!), the chirashi bowl, the sea cucumber, and the spicy japan scallop roll. Everything tasted fantastic and we didn't leave a single grain of rice.

In my opinion, it's rare to encounter Japanese food in America that I end up loving. Every raw ingredient looked and tasted fresh. Uni here was creamy, the green tea was well-steeped, and the sesame seeds on the spicy japan roll were aromatic.

I highly recommend that you come here for a special occasion or whenever you crave extremely FRESH Japanese food.

It was excellent

We came to celebrate my wife's birthday on a Monday night with a large group of 12. We had an awesome experience, with the staff picking several of their favorite cut rolls for the group to try. The food was great, with some old classics supplemented with some new rolls we've never had before. On top of that, the service was impeccable, with our server seeing to our every need and the food coming out at 2 rolls at a time over the course of the meal. Finally, they offer reasonably priced corkage fees,, so we were able to bring some of our own champagne and wine in to enjoy with our meal without breaking the bank! I've been looking for another good, reasonably priced sushi place since Hara changed ownership and Sushi Kanpai on Wilshire fits the bill. We'll definitely be back!

I stumbled upon this restaurant a few weeks ago and have been coming every week since. It is authentic and fresh, there is a special menu that gets updated everyday which is unique to see among restaurants in LA. The hand rolls, fried chicken, tempura, and ramen are my favorite dishes and highly recommend the ramen as it is much more authentic than other places in LA.
