Go to their Go Fund Me to help get them re-opened! Best coffee and atmosphere in LA.

Too bad this place is closed.Rating is for 6 months ago.Good service, good coffee, friendly staff, some pastries. Go by every 2 days but appears it will not reopen. Part of church that does work for the area. It was great for the community.

I once came to this cafe and loved my experience. I didn't fully understand the concept of a donations funded coffee shop. How do they make money? I assume people are thoughtful and pay what they can. But my dilemma was finding a place to get some work done while I was in the Santa Monica/ Promenade area. While looking up cafes with wifi and a nice working space, I gave this coffee shop a try and I really liked it. Cute, spacious, quirky, artistic, hipster vibe in here. The place was very vibrant with a lot of windows shedding sunlight which you can use the blinds if you don't like the sun peeking through. A lot of comfortable chairs and enough space to use laptop, and spread out some documents. I just ordered a simple black coffee because I needed strong coffee that day. I would definitely come back if I needed a place to work in the area.

The customer service is amazing and the coffee is great, donation based shop. A great place to hangout in Santa Monica.

I actually like the view here even though it's mainly people watching?

I came in consistently for one month offering up to 10 dollars in donations every time excluding tip including a coffee. One morning I come in and the manager explains that my donations are not enough, even though I always tip two extra dollars on top of the cost of food. Look, this is a donation based coffee shop that refuses to accept donations. Why do you even say you accept donations? You don't. Instead, just give a price to pay so you don't completely embarrass me in front of others. Shame on you, Metropolis. If you're not willing to accept donations please change your status as a business to a money laundering facility. I've seen others come in with just .50 cents in their pocket and you still serve them- yet you felt it was noble to ridicule me when I typically pay up to 10 dollars. Please shut down.

Great concept, terrible coffee. I love that it is a name your price nonprofit for the homeless. That is amazing. But I got an ice latte and I took one sip and just threw it out. One of the worst coffees I've ever had.

Great coffee from Golden State, huge artsy atmosphere, and best/most uniquely of all, it's a donation-based coffee shop. WHAT. YEAH. "Choose what you pay." So many pour over options, I had a Zanzibar peaberry that was perfect. Would be a great study/work spot! Ample metered street parking :)

This was my first time working out of a cafe since the pandemic hit. I had an appointment nearby and needed a place to work out of for a couple hours. I didn't know that this cafe was donation based before arriving, but I love the concept. Employees were not pushy, in fact the staff were some of the nicest I've encountered since pre-pandemic times. My cortado was also made perfectly. Only downside is no free parking (those $2.50/hr SM meters are devastating). There are lots of tables for working both inside and outside of the cafe. This was such a comfortable spot, I'll make sure to come back next time I'm in the area!

Great concept: You pay what you want for whatever you order and it goes to their non-profit. The indoor dining (and work) space is beautiful and the concept is great, but not so much the coffee.
