Wanted to love this so badly. The food looks absolutely mouthwatering. The menu looks expansive and flavorful. I could not wait to try it. Unfortunately, the food I tried was completely average. The garlic naan and chicken tikka masala/butter chicken were quite plain and lacked flavor. Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes because the mango lassi was delicious.

The first warning is when we walked in an no one was there (if you travel a lot know this is the biggest redflag). B-rating from the health department, and most alarming...it didn't smell like an Indian food restaurant. We were craving Indian food so we decided to stay... But two small plates of food for $55? For Chicken biryani and lamb roganjosh? Rice cost extra? And much like the other reviews stated, yes I believe that this was frozen, box insta-mix dinners. The meat was dry and bland. The vegatables were clearly frozen. I've had a lot of Indian food and this isn't it. We left hungry and I'm writing this review from another restaurant.

Update: stomach issues the next day. If you are reading this, consider yourselves warned.

Ritaโ€™s Gate of India excels at presenting both classic and regional Indian dishes with bold flavor and refined balance. The Achari meat was tender and slow-cooked to perfection, with a rich gravy that lingered on the palate. For vegetarians, the paneer tikka masala and velpuri was creamy and satisfying, and the garlic naan arrived perfectly charred and buttery. The spice levels are customizable, making the food approachable for all palates, while still preserving the richness and complexity that defines Indian and Bengali cuisine. The menu they have thatโ€™s totally different then any other Restaurants

Owners are both incompetent and rude. The worst people to run a restaurant. The food is far from good - and certainly does not redeem the place. This is why it's always empty. There are so many great spots in Santa Monica - avoid this one.

It is absolutely true, that Rita restaurant not serve actual Indian Cuisine, Be careful before step in cause they think customers are foolish, Naan are ready-made frozen , koftas are pakoras , chanas are as from doller store tin food, open and mix it with potato and tomato gravy, if don't believe go have food and waste your money time and taste. Hopeless restaurant So ZERO rating ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ‘Ž

This meal was very good. No one was there. My kind of scenario. I had the lemon curry with shrimp and the tofu saag paneer. Both were spicy and delicious. Staff were attentive and welcoming.
