This review is for pre-Covid. Our toddler doesn't eat chicken unless it is from here, since the teriyaki sauce is sweet. We usually get double chicken and chicken/shrimp lunch, which is enough for two adults and a toddler with leftovers. Usually reliable mall favorite.

This is not really located at Santa Monica Pier, but rather at a food court in a mall about a block away.We tried the Teriyaki beef and chicken with vegetables. Both had good portions - you won’t walk away hungry. As far as taste goes, we’ve been to other Japanese grills and this one ranks lower. While the sauce looks good, it tastes watered down. The rice was slightly undercooked/harder - half of us liked it this way over softer/soggier.There is no organization of orders - styrofoam containers are placed side by side with no tickets beside them. It was busy and we had to guess who’s order was next - the person behind us asked if his order was in front of ours which seemed odd, but it actually was. Our order took about 15 minutes - something to expect since they cook the food in front of you.In any case, I would eat here again because the price was right and it seems like a healthier alternative to burgers and fries, even if the speed of service or food taste isn’t spectacular.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Sarku Japan restaurant today located at 395 Santa Monica Place at the food court on the third floor. I was going to the movies and decided to get a quick bite and ordered the California Roll and Spicy Tuna Roll which were both made to order for just $11.55 for 10 pieces!I have to say the rolls were as good as any sushi place I have eaten and better then WHOLE Foods or RALPH's!If your at the food court at Santa Monica Place, give SARKU a chance!Recommend!

I frequent this excellent place every couple of days because I like the good mood that is part of this place. The team is awfuly loyal and qualified. The service is remarkablywonderfully quick. Not to mention, the food you eat is first-rate. I came more than once and I was always joyful. The pay is decent. I highly suggest this restaurant to my friends and family.

Walk away! Walk away! Worst teriyaki chicken I have EVER had! Spicy tuna - the only thing to say is "spicy". Ever had spicy tuna that was hot enough to burn your mouth? Would add a pic but don't want you lose your lunch!
Saraku Japan was my go-to fast lunch spot when I worked in the area. I tried it recently and it's pretty much the same. They have teriyaki chicken, beef, and shrimp over rice with veggies. They also have sushi rolls. Santa Monica Place food court looks nice with the play area and outdoor seating, but the food selection is lacking. I visited recently and decided to stick to Sarku.

The sushi rolls are better than grocery store, and less expensive. Would get the volcano roll again.

Avoid it at all costs, I found a few hairs in my food and the sushi tastes like the fish had been lying around for weeks. Stay away!

fake japenese food. bad customer service. the asain women gave me the wrong combo and try to charge the wrong amount. Highly not recomand!

Regretful choice! The beef seems kinda old and not tasty, the rice is also old and cold, the "fresh" vegetables have that rotten taste. Don't come here!! You will regret it! I am going somewhere else to eat again, this was not food!
