This place is so cute! The food is so good. I’m kind of poor so I can’t come here often. I walk by here every day and no one is inside. It makes me sad because you can tell the owners put so much love into this place. I’d hate to see it go. The sushi is fire and unique. You won’t regret trying to place. Praying for Keith Lee to come visit this place. ??

I eat sushi every two weeks and this is the best sushi I've ever had. If I got diagnosed with cancer and was going to die this would be the food I'd eat for the last time.

What a gem for authentic Japanese food and delicious fresh sushi. We went for happy hour and loved the 2 for 1 Sapporo draft beer special. I had Oden which was absolutely delicious and authentic and perfect for a cold rainy night. The croquettes were also incredible and fresh. The sushi...just WOW! Service is impeccable. Tío is knowledgeable and made us laugh a lot too. We will definitely be back!

Low-key atmosphere, good quality sushi and sashimi. We had red snapper sashimi, eel nigiri, blue fin nigiri, takoyaki, oden soup, and mixed tempura. All of it delicious and well-prepared. We've enjoyed two visits and will definitely be back. No crowds on a Saturday night makes it an easy choice for good sushi.

Pleasantly surprised by this place! Was on the beach and saw it and decided to just try it and got some rolls as carry-out. Portions were large, great value for the price, tasted good. The staff were so, so nice. I could tell it was important to them that I had a good experience. The dishware was super pretty too, wish I had dined in instead so I could see more up close, but I know I am definitely coming back to dine in and bringing friends next time I'm in Santa Monica.

As a traveler staying at the Hilton Hotel, I found this lovely neighborhood sushi place halfway between the hotel and the beach and pier. Do yourself a favor and skip Bubba Gump and the other tourist spots and head to Sushi Gozen. It is unassuming and unpretentious and has a wonderful variety of authentic Japanese - American choices. From standard sushi to fancier rolls, bowls of noodles, and other entrees and appetizers. My experience was the opposite of the one star reviewer’s report. the sushi fish was delightfully fresh and well “sauced”, and worth the price.

Let me just say that this review isn't just because of bad service, it's also because of after the bad service I had to eat very pedestrian sushi. I got to Sushi Gozen while on jury duty at the Santa Monica courthouse. I had 90 minutes for lunch and walked in there at 12:15, knowing that I had a full 60 minutes to relax and eat before leaving with enough time to get back. So the waiter and sushi chef met me with smiles and sat me in the back. The place was bright, clean and new. After fifteen minutes I had to get up and ask the waiter to take my order. Not a big deal. As I sat for the next half-hour waiting I watched other customers approach him with the same question that was in my mind, "where's my food?!"As I waited and stewed I saw a man sitting with his hipster friends going back into the kitchen and coming out with water. Is that the owner? As his single waiter flailed about to take orders, fill orders, and take care of tables he just sat with his buds laughing it up. At one point he did come back and fill my water glass (with the bottle that he was using at his table) and he confirmed that this was his "down scale" sushi restaurant. Nice enough but certainly not tuned in to what was going on at his place. Finally at 1:00 I had to get up again and ask for my simple order: 1 avocado roll and 1 extra hot spicy tuna roll. It's not like the place was packed. Finally, with ten minutes to spare came two plates of food. No pickled ginger. No wasabi. AND NO SPICE IN MY SPICY TUNA ROLL! Just two mediocre sushi rolls. The waiter was running around without a clue and the owner was yukking it up with friends. Never once did he get up to help out his single overwhelmed server. I think that pissed me off more than anything. So to sum it up, this was just a crappy lunch. At the end I was forced to run back to the courthouse. I imagine that they can do better than what I experienced. I don't think I'll ever go back to find out. Good luck Gozen.

Loved it! It was under $100 for 3 of us. Delicious and staff was very attentive to gluten allergy. Looking forward to going back!
