This is a review for the hand roll bar:
As good as the food is, the service was downright awful for a few reasons. 1. They would not let my wife and I split a hand roll set, instead forcing us to spend more to buy them a la carte. 2. They forgot our soup. After 20 minutes of waiting, we cancelled it. 3. The server was hostile and pretentious to us- I’ve never felt this in a restaurant before.
The dry aged fish is unique so maybe just get takeout from the market next door instead.
Best blue fin Tuna sashimi and oysters. Check the hours of operation and service. Street parking only.
Don’t bring a dog if you want to eat at the café. They cannot serve hand rolls while you’re sitting outside.
I went into Uoichiba Handroll for lunch in Sherman Oaks on the day they were closed by mistake. Fortunately, Omar, who was running the fish/wagyu “deli counter” at the Joint, offered to slice 1/2 pound of chu toro for me and allowed me to dine in at one of the bar height tables and the waitress at the coffee bar part of the joint gave me chopsticks, soy sauce, wasabi and napkins. Problem solved. I LOVE this place!
Excellent seafood.
I regret that I didn’t come here earlier! An amazing place for fish lovers! And the people who work there are very nice!
Absolutely amazing experience, the workers are so nice and helpful and will take the time to explain things to new customers. The dry aged collars are absolutely delicious as well as the smoked salmon that tastes like heaven, would highly recommend, and thank you Josh for helping me.
Next level fish market is here. Dry aged fish tastes better, the texture is better, and looks better. I like to get coffee, smoked fish, and sometimes hand rolls.
They have the best fish, I shop here weekly.
I went for the handroll bar and it was great! Friendly service and they do not rush you like many of the other handroll bars do. The fish was fresh and the rolls were unique. I do wish the rice was warm as it is supposed to be in a hand roll. I also thought it was a little weird that the person preferred the sushi basically had to turn their back to you to make the sushi which made it feel a little less personable, but with this being said I'd still go back I enjoyed myself very much! There are some other things that you can take advantage of such as fresh seafood, aged seafood, a coffee shop, I would look to be some really good bread and pastries. A+ for being unique and having good quality options to choose from!

I realized after reviewing Uoichiba that I still had not yet reviewed The Joint. How is this possible?! Fixing my mistake now. ?The fish here is really spectacular, & DAFG (Dry Aged Fish Guy) is legendary. He is doing amazing things with fish & it is clear he is a master of his craft. You can tell by the meticulous, beautiful shop & the deliciousness of all of his offerings. Some of the prices miiight be a tad higher than you are used to, especially if you only buy your fish at a typical grocery store - but I promise you, there is a reason & it is justified. A lot of time, skill & care has gone into these fish, & you will absolutely taste a difference.I really can not say enough nice things about this place. Everyone who works here is nice, helpful & knowledgeable. if you don't know what you want, or what amount you need, they can help! Try any of the dry aged fish, you can't go wrong. The fresh stuff is great too, & I also really love the smoked scallops & salmon belly. If you love The Joint, be sure to go give some love to Uoichiba as well! ❤️
The Chef at the joint has been breaking new ground in aged fish. Aging fish gives it new/different flavors profiles and was a great experience in getting to try all the new work being done to create something new. The fish and hand rolls were great. I ate las much as I could and tried as much as possible. It was a great experience and tasting.
freshest seafood from Japan, much more economical to buy your sashimi here. They also have a hand roll kit which is fantastic.
UDATE:Since the pandemic they pretty much had stopped being a restaurant, on top of being a great coffee spot and the best seafood place in LA (in my opinion). I can't tell you how much I miss all the amazing food I used to get there, including, of course, my favorite clam chowder ANYWHERE.But now, they are serving really incredible hand rolls for lunch and dinner four or five days a week (I can't remember exactly)But all I can say after scarfing down about 9 of their amazing hand rolls is: move over Kazu Nori. For $32 you get 6 delicious hand rolls. An incredible deal for the quality of the seafood.Great fresh fish that's dry aged. I had the Black Cod with the Kale and Potatoes, which was excellent. But the "Clam Chowder" is the best I've had and I'm from New England, the heart of Chowder country, Cape Cod to be specific. This is the chowder I would make if i was a gourmet chef. I know a lot of people like a thick chowder with lots of potatoes, I'm not one of them. I think it takes away from that incredible clam flavor. They make it with a light broth, a touch of dairy, leeks, and about 20 whole clams. NO POTATOES. I can't tell you how hard it is to find a chowder with no potatoes, let alone no flour added to increase the thickness. I can't wait to go back to get this chowder. I ended the meal with a delicious homemade cookie and cold brewed oat milk latte. I'm really looking forward to trying their calamari, fish tacos, lobster roll, and oysters on the half shell. I might just have to go back tomorrow. So, I've been back a few times now and everything I've had is really amazing. I bought a lb. of their house smoked salmon to bring to a Super Bowl Party (Another great Pats win) and heated it at 360 for 5 minutes, like they told me to, and it was fantastic. I've also had their lobster rolls, which were very good, and the grilled shrimp which was excellent, and also the crudo, which was great, but the outstanding dish here, above all else, is the scallops. I can't wait to go back for them. This is now my go to seafood place. Everything I've had is worth going back for.
The definition of fresh sushi grade fish. It’s a little pricey but you get what you pay for - premium fish.
