Coming from SF Bay, I am spoiled when it comes to local restaurants. In Sonoma, there's a lot of hoity toity restaurants for tourists, but not tons for local people who just want some good food. This place is GOOD FOOD. I especially love the chow fun and spicy double mushroom!The people who run it are really really lovely. Salt of the Earth. So grateful for this local place. I feel very at home when I'm there.

I was highly disappointed. I come here often with my family. Today i came in for dinner by myself and i ordered the same combo my daughter gets a $16 combo they added $2 to change the entree to orange chicken. I also, had ordered an egg flower soup togo that was amazing. But my plate was horrible. The chow mein was greasy and flavorless. The rice had literally 3 tiny pieces of bbq pork and barely any veggies. But the most disappointing was the orange chicken. Only 5 small pieces with almost no sauce. I was so sad i didn't want to eat. Like $18 for a plate of mostly chow mein that was the worst I've ever had here. Service was Okay even though the guy has to be asked for ever single thing. But he was more friendly when i was leaving.

I used to get take out here regularly. I ate here recently and was sorely disappointed in the quality of the food. the flavors were gluey and flat. the only thing I'd ever order again is the Moo Shu sad!

Sonoma has some great cuisine but I try to find some good Chinese food. Not great just good at this point. Pros : friendly staff, fast service and reasonable prices. I enjoyed the egg rolls. Cons: the food. The wonton soup lacked flavor. The broth was more like just hot water. The sweet and sour chicken was dull and lacking any flavor.

We ate here in November 2019 (pre-Covid!) on our last evening of a wonderful trip to Hawaii and Sonoma wine country. We were leaving the next day from Oakland Airport; we had finished an amazing wine tasting at Bedrock in town, there was a festival going on in the town plaza with jillions of people celebrating. So we were in great moods and feeling a bit deflated knowing we must now return to reality. So we wanted a simple and good meal, and we chose Happy Garden because it was walking distance from the plaza and our nearby hotel. Food was decent and non-memorable, simple surroundings, maybe generic. But, it served its purpose: a decent meal to finish off our stay and get back to the hotel to sleep.

From the amazingly friendly staff to great food, Happy Garden does Chinese food the right way and always great tasting. The ability to add or subtract items in a dish makes even the pickiest person happy. Definitely recommend to stop in or order out.
The flavor is IMMACULATE!! If you are looking for good, comforting Chines food, go to Happy Garden! We usually order for take out and the wait is about 20 minutes. The front "desk" person is always kind and has our food ready to go. We are 4 adults and it is usually around $100. Combo plates are the best! There is enough for two meals! And the food tastes AMAZING reheated!

We have found our go-to Chinese Restaurant in Sonoma. We just finished our lunch here at Happy Garden Restaurant in the Whole Foods shopping center and it was just what the doctor ordered. The spices were used gently and mindfully. Very delicate and layered. The ingredients are fresh and the dishes are made to order. Yum! Thank you Happy Garden, we will be back next week and the next week and.....
