Today, I visited Amami Sun in South San Francisco, and it was an amazing experience! The atmosphere was cozy, the staff was very attentive, and the sushi was absolutely delicious. Every dish was fresh and beautifully presented. I especially loved the chef’s special rolls. I will definitely come back and highly recommend this place to all fans of Japanese cuisine!

So sad they turned me away at 9:30. To think I come here every time I come to town…

Service is impersonal if you aren’t a regular (which is fine, won’t ding for it if the food is great).

Unfortunately the food left much to be desired. See the attached photo for the salmon bento box which is very clearly tiny scrap salmon bits they couldn’t use for their sushi. The salmon wasn’t seasoned well either (they just cooked and poured sauce at the very end. It didn’t taste like the sauce was part of the cooking). It is not worth the price like this.

It also looks nothing like the salmon bento a previous reviewer shared where there were four large pieces of salmon (you can search “salmon bento” in the search box.

California roll is good.

We ordered the tonkatsu dinner set with tempura and beef teriyaki dinner set. The teriyaki and tempura were both too dry, and the batter on the tempura was too hard. One of the shrimp tempura was so dry it tasted pasty. Service was decent, portions were large, but the food was a miss…

It is frustrated by dismissive, unfair, and unacceptable customer service from a young girl server. That girl is unfriendly and rude to the customer. Even though the food is good and fresh, we will not return to eat there. The restaurant owner or manager should be there to oversee how the server serves customers. It is hard to file a complaint while no manager is on duty.

Omakase for $42! What a great price for quality and amount of sushi. The price has increased over the years but for 10 pieces it is such a great deal! We had a reservation for a party of 7 at 7pm on a Tuesday night and it was busy. There’s street parking surrounding but this is a pretty busy place. Service was good and they were friendly. They serve you unlimited hot tea, you can ask for water. 4 of us got the $42 omakase and the salmon belly was a crowd favorite. All so good! One of our friends was going to get omakase but then opted for the medium sashimi for $46 but comes with 20 pieces of sashimi, so you get more fish. One of our other friends doesn’t eat raw fish but she likes to get their beef teriyaki which was pretty good, California roll and miso soup dinner bento for $23 and Our other friend got a dinner combo with salmon teriyaki and sashimi for $27, so like half the price but for a large amount of food. We loved the ginger and they also let us eat our cake we brought. We got 2 large sakes ($8 each). A very nice and cozy but busy spot to enjoy dinner with friends and family or even on your own!

This is the best sushi I’ve had in my life, and I’ve had a lot. The baked scallop roll was unique and delicious, and the spicy salmon was spicier than normal and was incredible. I highly recommend this place.

Made reservations for 730 on a Friday night. They are busy and it is not a big place. Had to wait for a table to finish but didn’t wait too long.

There were so many things I wanted to try. I ended up getting the omakase, baked scallop and the tai carpaccio. Everything was so good but I ordered way too much so my son helped me finish. He ordered 2 rolls- red and white (soft shell crab) roll and the grass chopper roll.

The tai carpaccio is played in a martini glass. I had to try it. I would order it again.

Omakase pieces are cut very generously. I noticed a lot of tables order it. It was $42 which is a great price for what you get.

Daughter ordered 2 of the veggie rolls- sweet potato and vegetable tempura.

They also have dinner entrees. Beef teriyaki was a generous portion too.

Will have to come again to try other things!
