Chaat Bhavan - Sunnyvale

Great food and service. Thalis were good and tasty.

Update 2025 June: we went for a Friday dinner, and the place still gets packed. However, we find the food to be less flavorful and less tasty. We ordered pav bhaji, chole bhature, and others and all of them were tasteless.

We went for breakfast at chaat bhavan we tried their chana bhathura , is really good. Also servers are very humble and respectful.

Mediocre in all aspects

We visited chaat bhawan today. The food was delicious as always. Additionally, our servers were very friendly and engaged our grandkids with humor and conversation. Particularly, Deepak, who established a report with kids and also served us with honor and dignity. Special shout out for Deepak. Also, the began Bhartha was real exotic and moog daal halwa authentic.

Another point of light along the initially rather soulless Lawrence expressway which is turning out to be a garden of Indian delight ? I went here for the chaat and gorged on two plates of chaat goodness. Crunch crunch!

To be honest, it's a place that had to grow on me.

The food is not overly oily, spicy, creamy, salty, etc. Perhaps because it's not too stimulating, it may lack an initial "wow" , and I see other people calling the food bland.

But now, I've come to appreciate that the food is fresh, healthy, clean, and even plated with care. You don't have to regret eating it after.

There are other details I've come to appreciate:

- No loud music blasting
- People are friendly.. and I always see young families enjoying themselves
- The tea doesn't develop that 'film' that tea often does.. and you can add sugar yourself to taste
- Clear gluten free and Jain options

All in all, it's a place that you can keep coming back to.

Waited almost 30 minutes to pick up my doordash order after it was ready for pickup, but no one could help me. The front desk person was on the phone the entire time and everyone else just ignored me. Eventually, one guy looked at my order and said he’ll help me find it, but I never saw him again. I understand a restaurant is busy, but not being able to hand me my order right from their kitchen after 30 min of wait is ridiculous. I eventually just left WITHOUT my order because I got tired of waiting and being ignored. What is this complete utter incompetency?

I would recommend no one ever order takeout from this restaurant.
