They have a lot of vegan options. However, they added 20% tip without any warning. If I decide to tip,I base it on my experience and the food.

Mayan Kitchen offers tasty food and good service, but there are a few things to be aware of. Ordering was a bit challenging for me since the menu felt somewhat chaotic, with too many “top seller” or highlighted items competing for attention.

We started with the Sikil P’ak and the queso fundido to share. Both were enjoyable, and the tortilla chips were especially good. For my main dishes, I chose the cochinita pibil and the blue churrasco tacos. The cochinita was great. The churrasco tacos were decent, but the raw peppers didn’t quite work for me. Finally we ordered churros, which is a great way to end. 1 or 1/2 per person was more than enough for us.

Service was good throughout, and while the tacos aren’t cheap, the pricing feels fair for the quality of the ingredients. One downside was the seating: our table had a half-sofa, half-chair setup, and the sofa was a bit uncomfortable — whenever someone moved, the whole seat bounced.

Cocktails here are wine-based, which is worth noting, but they offer a nice selection of Mexican beers to balance it out. Overall, a flavorful and enjoyable experience with a few minor drawbacks.

Our team visited Mayan Kitchen in Sunnyvale’s downtown on Murphy Avenue for lunch. One standout positive was their surprisingly large selection of vegan options, which can be hard to find in Mexican-style cuisine. This made it a convenient spot for a group with varied dietary preferences.

We tried a couple of their specialty drinks , the brown rice horchata and the tamarind agua fresca both of which were refreshing and nicely balanced. For appetizers, the fried plantains were delicious and well-prepared. However, the other starters, like the chips and salsa, came in very small portions for the price. The same goes for the charred cauliflower, which tasted good but included only 5–6 pieces and felt significantly overpriced.

As for the entrées, the general consensus from both vegan and meat eaters at the table was that the dishes were just okay and nothing particularly memorable or standout in terms of flavor or authenticity. The churros were another letdown: we received just one, and it wasn’t especially impressive, yet priced on the higher side.

The highlight of the visit was definitely the friendly and attentive service. Still, while the ambiance and staff were great, the food felt overpriced for the portions and overall taste quality.

Overall, Mayan Kitchen offers great service and an admirable range of vegan options, but the menu could benefit from more generous portions and stronger flavors to match its price point.

The food was cool and done okay but perhaps a bit sloppily served and not the easiest to eat. Noise levels are very high.

Cocktails are great, especially the non alcoholic ones!

It should be illegal to charge so much and provide so little in return! Exorbitant prices and the food was beyond terrible. The vegan scallop paella tasted like chilli powder mixed in with white rice. The passion fruit margarita tasted like a premade mix from Costco. The portions are so small that after paying almost $100 for 2 adults we went to another restaurant afterwards because we were still hungry :(

It’s not easy to find a vegan friendly restaurant in South Bay but Mayan kitchen surpassed all our expectations! They have authentic South American (mayan) food and lovely service. We have revisited multiple times and have never had any complaints.

Don't order the shrimp taco, it literally came with (2) shrimp on it so sad. Be aware!

The decor is better than the food here! The eggplant roll we had was served cold and was raw and almost inedible. We got the Salbutos and Panuchos for nostalgia value (we had eaten them in the Yucatan) but they were greasy, and were neither fresh nor flavorful which is what we had liked about them. We got a Michelada which was unfortunately disappointing too. I’d be surprised if this place is around for much longer!

This place is a gem. A really great variety of things I don’t see at other places. When you want to eat Mexican food, but not your regular Mexican food. Mayan food.

Located at 139 Murphy in Sunnyvale this very authentic restaurant is a delight with fresh vegetarian options and some meat options. The Yucatan fries are a must try.
