Used to come here all the time. However, it's food items started deteriorating towards the end. Have been coming for over 12 years.

This is a review that hurts to write. As you've probably heard, Sweet Tomatoes and Souplantation are slated to close permanently, with COVID-19 having been the final nail in the coffin for them. Granted, I read that they hadn't been doing too well before this, and, given how lots of people are on-edge due to COVID-19, it would've been difficult for Sweet Tomatoes and Souplantation to pick up steam again with lots of people reluctant to eat at buffet-style restaurants (hell, restaurants in general.) I had gone to this particular location countless times since I was a kid growing up in Sunnyvale. I remember a number of times as a kid when we'd hop in the family car on Sunday nights before school the next day and drive over here via either Central or Lawrence for dinner. On a weekend evening, this place was usually PACKED with customers. The set-up was pretty simple: grab a tray (or two), pick one of two lines to stand in, grab plates and cutlery to put on your tray(s), and then fill them with food as you go along. You would pay at the end of the line. Afterwards, you would either seat yourself or wait to be seated by an employee if they were particularly busy. You could then go to the other areas to get soup, pizza, muffins, and dessert among other things. Some of the items that I really liked and/or were really well-known were: + Caesar salad + Joan's Broccoli Madness Salad + Blueberry muffins + Various soups They also were really good when it came to coupons/specials to save you and your family a bundle when coming here to eat. With respect to this location, some of the things I really liked were: + They had both indoor and outdoor seating, and they had several heaters on the ceiling to keep you warm in case it was cold outside. + Even though it could get extremely crowded, with lines out the door, the lines would usually move quickly, and it usually didn't take too long for a table to open up. + Excellent parking. Considering that this location was/is next to the Sunnyvale Costco, the parking lot is huge. Yes, you sometimes might have had to park closer to Costco and walk over, but you could've probably used the exercise anyway after all you ate. It's a big bummer that these guys are now history. It's even sadder to think of the other restaurant and general business closures that COVID-19 has left, and will leave, it its wake. It doesn't help either that, even after COVID-19 is one day no longer a worry, that some folks will be afraid to go to any place with lots of other people like a buffet-style restaurant or a concert or baseball game. I get it, but I refuse to live in fear after this is over. I fully intend to return to places like that, and I hope you do the same. I'm not gonna let my favorite businesses die off so easily. I hope you don't either. Not to downplay COVID-19, because I know it's a big threat to public health and we all have to be vigilant for the time being, but there's no sense, IMO, in thinking that places like Sweet Tomatoes or Giants ballgames have to be avoided forever because of fear of getting sick. Nonsense. There will come a day when it will be reasonably safe to go back to places like these again without having to wear a mask, carry hand sanitizer with you, and stay six feet apart from others. Once that day comes, I hope to see people back out in public again. 4 stars

I just enjoyed their food. I always get good customer service here. The place is clean and the staff members are always very nice. I highly recommend this place.

Sweet Tomatoes is a place where if you took a salad restaurant and combined it with a buffet, you would get a combination of the two. This is exactly what this is; an all-you-can-eat salad buffet where you have the option to select different salad types, and then customize the toppings you want. After paying the flat fee of $13-$14, you can go ahead and eat to your appetite's content. They also serve soups here, but a lot of them have meat or are cooked with meat. There are sometimes some decent ones, but most of the time are mediocre. The have cold pasta dishes which are mediocre as well, and they have extremely mediocre desserts that taste like mediocre buffet-style desserts like your classic brownie and vanilla/chocolate "ice cream" machines. All in all the place is good for salads, but the other buffet component is quite awful.

A great place for salads and smaller tasty portions. Now if only they'd keep kids away from the salad bars so that they're not always coughing all over the produce! Come'on people!

I love meat, so I was pleasantly impressed by how good salad could be. Plus, nice atmosphere, quick and easy to get food, nice selection of toppings and extras. The chili was good too. We ate in their covered outdoor area, which was more quiet, nicer for talking

I believe they opened over thirtyfive years ago. I take my son when was very very young. His mother worked second shift so him and I would eat there three or four nights a week. Under the age of 5 was free. I can honestly say I've eaten more meals at Sweet Tomatoes then I have at the next two or three most frequent places combined. Easy for me to say this is my favorite restaurant and the only all-you-can-eat restaurant I will allow myself to go to.

Great fresh salad for lunch. They really do have a large selection of fixing for the salad bar. And with soup, pasta and pizza to round out the meal makes for a filling lunch. The cauliflower soup was very good. No room for dessert.

My favorite all you can eat salad restaurant. Pretty much everything here is vegetarian (except the soups and bacon bits). There are many options to top your salad: beans, beets, egg, vegetables, cheese, and lots of dressing. Beyond the salad, they also have focaccia pizza, baked potatoes, soup, pasta, breads, and desserts. It's all you can eat and a reasonable price. They always keep the items well stocked and it's usually fresh.

I've been fortunate to have dealt with the the manager, Edwin. The weekend cashier behind the counter, Emma is really nice too. If I had a problem, they would go out of their way to fix it. I go here weekly, 2 times a week for soup (mostly). They have the best chicken noodle soup. Tastes better than Whole Foods and cost less. I would recommend this place to friends and family. The place is kept clean and the lines move really fast.

Good place for family buffet with varieties of food and amazing salad bar. Limited non vegetarian food but food is highly nutritious.
