We've been coming here for many years and Chef Douglas Dale never disappoints. We are typically early diners in the evening but everything is ready to go no matter when you go.. The food is always inventive and changes as the seasons turn from one to another. Overall, it's an experience to dine at Wolfdale's and one you won't soon forget.
The food was fantastic and clearly, the chef only used high quality ingredients. The entree menu was a bit limited and all three of us had the Thai Fish Stew because it sounded the most interesting. The name of the dish doesn't adequately describe what a well flavored, exquisitely prepared entree this was. One of the appetizers that also stood out was the lobster tempura. All in all, a beautiful meal and dining experience.
I was looking forward to dining here since hearing about it's reputation. I found the ambiance and service exceptional but I felt the food fell short of my expectation. I ordered 3 fresh oysters which were beautifully served and were served beautifully and were delicious especially with the sauce. The Hokkaido scallops however were disappointing as they were not properly seared and 1 of the 3 one was tough. The polenta with fresh vegetables under the scallops was delicious but barely enough to enjoy with scallops. Just 2 more spoonfuls would have made a big difference in the dish's enjoyment especially considering the price. Overall I enjoyed my experience.
We had a great meal at Wolfdale's. The food was wonderful, and the service spot on. We enjoyed the Salmon, which was perfectly cooked. Highly recommend.
Always a quality dining experience in Tahoe City. We were there for my Son's 21st birthday. Tip: Try a variety of the apps and small plates and share them, then split a couple of entrees.
Food quality is very good, but portions are small. We eat at Wolfdale's a few times a year and alway leave hungry unless we have several appetizers. Tables close together and cannot have a private conversation. As for Tahoe City, still best game in town. Small menu limits going more often.
Dinner was spectacular! We were there for our 38th wedding anniversary and had a marvelous table overlooking the lake. The food was exceptional, as was the service. Such a great meal tried smoked trout, lobster tempura, a great Thai stew, short ribs, and the most amazing coconut sorbet with caramel ice cream! Simply outstanding!
A very nice premium restaurant with a great view. But, they charge for bread!! Very poor policy for a high end restaurant. Don't charge for bread and don't ration it either.
I checked with a few of my friends that live in Lake Tahoe, and the consensus was Wolfdale's is the best restaurant in the area. And it lived up to expectations. Both the service level and the food quality was outstanding. Highly recommended!
Gyoza was great...Caprese was delicious and the preparation on the Halibut was freaking awesome!!!

The food was really weird. Thai curry halibut with a giant dollop of pesto with Parmesan? The filet was served in a dish in a soup sized serving of terrible bbq sauce. It's was really pretty bad. The views are astounding
Our dinner was absolutely fabulous! The halibut was out of this world. We are going back next Saturday!
We always enjoy Wolfdale's! We had a party of six (6); two of which were having birthdays. Food was excellent !
There is lovely ambience but really only in a small area of the dining spaces. We found overall that our reception by hostess and table was disappointing. We eventually got to a table we were comfortable in ( the outdoor table we were initially seated in was overlooking the parking lot). But once reseated we were “ abandoned” to finally be found by our waiter (who was personable and did a great job). This is a “very high-end” restaurant in Tahoe City. Given the prices and the hit or miss character of the ambience based on where one is seated, We (long time vacation home owners in TC, would not go again. Christy Hill “ right next door”had much better lakeside ambience, menu choices and guest reception. (Also pricey but still draws us there for special occasion dinners).
Keys to earning 5 stars from me: subtlety; balance; presentation; imagination; respect for precedent. Only 7 restaurants worldwide have earned 5 stars from me over 50+ years. Why does Wolfdale's deserve 5 stars? Quietly awesome food, service, ambience: This small, elegantly simple venue feels like a warm welcome with its fine views, fine art, and fine but not snobbish service; the corn chowder w/ fresh flower bits was absolutely delicious; the ahi poke cones appetizer was, as always, perfect; the shortribs w browned gravy, mash & potato chips respected tradition nicely; I chose the daily highlighted appetizer for my main -- a softshell crab tempura w/ ponzu dip, house-made bread &butter pickles, & sweet pepper, just lovely; and who could conceive of the flavor + texture wizardry of sauteeing shitake mushroom with currants?!? Wolfdale's! Yum!! Thanks, folks -- see you again soon☺️.
