🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 A Five-Star Flavor Journey at Mon Japanese Restaurant!

This place? Legendary. The fish is fresher than your last life decision, and the Premium Chirashi could make a sushi snob weep with joy. That Sashimi over rice? A spiritual experience.
The Spicy Creamy Vegetable Ramen is a warm, spicy hug in a bowl—vegetarians and flavor chasers, rejoice. And if you’re more of a meat-and-seafood connoisseur, Mon’s got you with chicken, steak, shrimp, and so many ocean treasures, you’ll start questioning why you ever settled for takeout sushi in the past.
Beverages? Oh, just a lovely lineup of sake, teas that smell like serenity, and sodas for the young (or young at heart).
The vibe is pure cozy Tokyo cafĂ©, lovingly run by the friendliest Japanese family you’ll ever meet. Seriously, they make you feel like part of the family—if your family cooked like culinary wizards.
Pro tip: It gets busy. Like, “waiting out front pretending you're fine but secretly tracking every table” busy. But they do offer takeout for those days when your couch calls.

Omg, what a gem. I feel like I am back in Japan. Like any proper sushi joint, it’s the people running it. Superb!

Disappointing Service - Not Worth the Hype

First and foremost, this review is entirely based on the awful service we received. We came in with high expectations based on the glowing reviews, but what we experienced was beyond frustrating.

We arrived, were seated, and placed a simple order--three rolls and garlic edamame. Nearly one hour later, all we had received was one roll and one cold order of Edamame and NOTHING else, while other customers who arrived long after us were being served promptly. Granted, this was served to us AFTER we inquired that we had been waiting for nearly 1 hour.

After flagging someone down to ask about our food, the manager casually drops off our long-forgotten, ice-cold edamame with a half-hearted apology. Not only was it cold and soggy, but it was also condensed with moisture, clearly sitting out on the counter for who knows how long.

When we inquired about the rest of our order, we were met with attitude instead of accountability. The manager was defensive and dismissive, acting like we were the problem for asking why our food never arrived. With how many takeout orders they were prioritizing over dine-in customers, we finally had enough and asked to cancel the rest of our order.

But wait--it gets worse. They still charged us for the sad, soggy edamame. So after an hour and 20 minutes, we walked out, $40 down, with nothing but a bad taste in our mouths--and not from the food.

It's a family-owned business, and we love supporting small restaurants, but that does not excuse poor service and outright rude behavior. If you're too overwhelmed with takeout orders to properly serve your dine-in customers, either fix your system or stop taking more than you can handle.

At the end of the day, it's not my responsibility to pay for your bad attitude. We won't be coming back.

And just like the service we received--this review is written in perfect alignment.

Unfortunately had a very bad dining experience here. Ordered 3 rolls plus edamame and it took just at an hour to get one of them after we had to ask. Customers whom arrived 20-45 minutes after us were seated and eating before we got anything. What we got was cold because it had been sitting so long. Service is extremely chaotic. Food had flavor but we will not be returning.

This place is cozy, its food is amazing, the staff is fun and gives great service. Yuji, the head chef and owner, is behind the sushi bar. He is fun and very friendly. This place feels like a mom and pop place in Japan. Home cooking from Japan. If you like sushi and live or are visiting the Valley. You should make this restaurant a dine-in dinner destination.

This has to be one of my all time favorite comfort foods! The staff is so nice and the food is soooo good. I always get the ramen because I love it so much. Make sure to get the garlic edamame when you visit!

No words other than PERFECTION.
I’m never disappointed when I come here the ramen slaps the sushi slaps the one thing that doesn’t slap : the servers. Which is a good thing who’d want to be slapped by their server?

The service is great. Please come eat here and tell me I’m wrong

You will not be disappointed like ever. Unless your taste buds suck. Then that’s a you problem

I ordered online. The size for the price is a joke. No way to get a refund or contract the seller.
No pictures when I ordered for delivery

Hopefully, the restaurant owner will take this review as a constructive criticism. I am a big fan of small businesses and want to support places like Mon Japanese Restaurant. I ordered their "Special Party Tray A" which incluides "4 Pc Tuna, 4pc Yellowtail, 4pc Albacore, 4 Pc Salmon, 1 California Roll(8pc), 1 Spicy Tuna Roll( 8 Pc), 1 Spicy Albacore Roll (8pc)". I found the quality of the fish to be mediocre at best; the rolls were sloppy and poorly assembled. The whole ordered tasted like undercooked rice with old raw fish on top. Maybe my order was the exception to an average 4.5 star rating that I definitively did not taste in the sushi I ordered. The people running this restaurant seemed kind and nice to their costumers. I truly hope that over time they will improve the quality of their food. I am cheering for you Mon Japanese Restaurant. Cheers!
