If you've been to the south like pecan lodge, goldies, Pinkerton, killers etc. Doesn't even hold a flame.
Being from Texas originally, I set the bar pretty high for Barbecue. Chris the owner and Arrion the cook, exceeded my expectations. Sampled multiple items and was highly impressed with everything I tasted. The brisket was certainly the star of the show. I highly recommend The Smoked Hog, to anyone who appreciates quality Barbecue. Great job, Y’all!!!👍👍👍👍👍
The food was amazing. True smoked BBQ. This isn't that stuff they boil in the back room and then sear over an open flame. Nah, this right here is SMOKED SMOKED. The first bite I took of the brisket was moist and you could taste it only had salt and pepper on it, as the BBQ Gods intended! It was well worth the 59 minute drive from Oceanside, CA.
I got the full spread, I forget what they call it in the menu but it comes with every meat (chicken, shredded pork, sliced brisket) it also includes ribs but they were out of ribs by the time I showed up at 8pm so I'd recommend getting there early.
For the price, the portions were decent. I paid $135 + tip and the amount of food was enough for 6 people to get SOME of everything. The sides were the size you'd get for a single serving so that was disappointment but the side were still very tasty. They were also out of baked beans, again, get there early lol.
This place is inside of a place. So I walked past it twice because this was my first visit but we found it. It has community seating, so a dining area shared by four or five restaurants and its park bench style seating.
I'd recommend this place 7/10. Those sides were a big let down but I'm still coming back because I want some ribs and baked beans. I'll just manage my expectations on my next visit.
Very nice and cozy place to enjoy an amazing Burger. The brisket burger was well done and juicy. I had to eat it quickly so my family wouldn't steal it 🤣
The hot link was good, but the pulled pork tasted like they put vineger in it to give it moisture. Sauces and mac-n-cheese were okay, but the collard greens were bitter and not seasoned well. Dickies is better, and that's not saying much.

I don’t know where this young man learned to cook but, OMG!!! So glad I found him?
The poor guy at the register was struggling to get the order right. I think he was overwhelmed and not sure if he was a newer employee. Now for the food…the Mac and Cheese was a major disappointment. The noodles were cooked right, but the cheese was sorely lacking. It was like they added noodles to make it stretch and it canceled out the ooey gooey cheese they advertised. The collard greens is definitely different. It was very oily and tasted like it had some bbq sauce with bits of the grilled meat that was dry and tough and had a little stick in it that would have been dangerous to eat if I didn’t see it. It wasn’t horrible, just a different take on preparation that I wasn’t a fan of. The pulled chicken wasn’t too bad once you added bbq sauce to it. The brisket was tender, but wasn’t as flavorful as one would have anticipated. The ribs were very tender, but had a weird smell when I opened the box they put it in. I love to smell my food, but this wasn’t the most pleasant smell so I only ended up eating only 2 bones. The cornbread was definitely on point. It tasted like skillet cornbread with a sweetness to it. My overall opinion is it was a one time experience. I wouldn’t Go back and especially for the cost and serving sizes it is way overpriced.

It’s so cute inside!!I got Mac n cheese and it was cold and under seasoned. Chicken again cold and under seasoned. Brisket cold with a nice seasoned crust but that’s were the flavor stops. The brisket did melt in your mouth but definitely is lacking flavor. It was 1:30pm when we went not busy at all and it was Sunday. Everyone was nice and friendly. But the food really needs help. Oh I did get “collard greens” yes cold the meat that was in it was over cooked and dried out, the greens had a can flavor the broth was the only thing that had any flavor and I think it was the amount of salt that was added. Would not go here or recommend this to anyone. My husband liked the brisket sandwich that he covered in bbq sauce so…

Brisket was terrible, had a bad smoke. Tasted like it was in black smoke. The ribs had a great smoke flavor, but they use cheaper rib cut with just the stub of a bone.
