We dropped by here after walking from our rented house in the subdivision and LOVED it. The location is best in town with the view of the flowing river below. Tap beers are $9 and a spicy Paloma will run you $15. We also picked up a tasty chicken nachos ($24) for our group to finger pick through and dusted those entirely. It’s not a place for frugal folks, but the outdoor ambiance makes it worth it! There’s also a small trail on the upstream side of the bridge leading down to the water that one can explore down and I’d recommend for those with sure footing!
Great little place for eating on the Truckee River.
The food, the service from Debbie, the location and the history are superb!
Horrible dry brisket, severely over charged at the bar.
A small drink cost more than the bottle.
Will not be back.
Ate at the grill right next to the river. Nice ambiance and location on the outdoor patio. Seating is limited, so may be a longer wait depending on how many in a group. Food was pretty good - simple, not fussy. There may be different beer selections at the bar inside, in case those outside aren't preferred.
We didn't stay at the hotel. We went for dinner because they had a children's menu and good variety. We had to move our own tables together for a party of 5. The menus were dirty. We were served promptly. The food arrived quickly. The portions were moderate. Once we were served they never came back for refills on drinks. The bbq sauce was very spicy, which I wished they mentioned because the brisket sandwich came already smothered in sauce. The hamburger in our order was overcooked, and the bun was slick from grease or butter...hard to tell. Entirely meh.
Discovered by accident. Actually, by Providence!
1882 Bar & Grill comes recommended without reservation!
Awesome food, Awesome service and a great view outside (below) on the patio.
David (and crew) were our servers - the entire team pitches in.
We enjoyed (split) the Brisket, along with sweet potato fries as our side.
Come and relax, enjoy the great food and service when you are in Truckee!
Bomb.com. Had the brisket sandwich, delish. Sweet potato fries some of the best I've had. Bartender on patio, David, friendly and provided great service. First time we ate here, but I'm sure whatever you have, you won't be disappointed. Historic building from 1882
Horrible service. Way overpriced & the quality of the food was horrible. Would NOT recommend!!
Great BBQ food, smoked on site. Good location, with outdoor seating overlooking the river.

Stopped in for a beer and snack…onion rings were recommended and were some of the best! Onions were crispy and didn’t pull out of the batter! A+ Great view and prompt service.
Did stay at the hotel just ate lunch by the river.
There’s something about a place that knows what it’s about—no pretense, just good food and real warmth. This spot nails it. The smoke brisket hits you with that slow-cooked, fall-apart tenderness that’s been marinated in love and hours over fire. Onion rings? Crispy little golden moons of joy. And that baked potato—stuffed full, no skimping here—comfort wrapped in thin skin.
The beer stays cold, the atmosphere hums with locals and travelers, all sharing the same hunger. Clean tables, attentive staff who are interested in your story. They get the backpacker trail trash look and serve you like you belong.
This isn’t just a meal; it’s a damn good place to sit down and breathe before hitting the trail again.
What a great place to eat this is! We had an outdoor seat and we watched the river while we ate. The food was excellent also! Service was great and everyone was very nice. I definitely recommend this place!
We came for lunch on a Sunday. The hoist greeted us with a smile and directed us to a table. Two waiters took care of one table each and we waited 15 minutes before we left. No waiter came to us.
Expensive. $12.95 chips and salsa, $30 lunch entrees
