FEB, 2024. Took my mother for her birthday dinner along w 6 other people. I orderd a bunch of sushi and rolls. The 1st dish was two pieces of sushi. We just stared at it as we didn't want to fight for one piece. It took twenty minutes to get another dish, ONE roll, we all took a bite of an ice cold eel roll and waited another 15 to 20 minutes for two cold California rolls. We were starving. We had been there for one hour. The restaurant was freezing, we all sat there with our jackets on. I talked to the manager and he apologized profusely and said he would talk to the chef.. I figured I might as well order some more in the hope that we could eat something. Nothing changed we kept getting 1 roll or 2 pieces of sushi for the whole table despite having ordered plenty. I complained again. He apologized profusely. By this time we were all quite arround a cold food less table. I asked for the bill and it was full price. I asked the server who by now assumed is a young owner/manager because I asked how he could charge for a full price after knowingly ruining our mothers birthday celebration. He said of course not. He gave a 15% discount. I had even there many months prior and enjoyed it. I think it has new management. I'll never be back, not only was it not delicious the services was the worst I've had in long while. What made it worse was the lack initiative to make it better.

The sushi chef was welcoming and friendly despite my little knowledge about sushi. All I tend to order is salmon sushi, spicy tuna hand roll, spicy tuna roll and some other rolls here and there. However, seeing him prepare sushi for the couple nearby made me want to try different kinds of sushi. I am looking forward to trying different fish from the sushi chef’s recommendation. Stay tuned!Their beef soup was good, just a tad pricy for what it was. I’ll stick to Shabu if I want soup. Their sushi was very good and I liked that the chef made the salmon sushi with lemon and did not need soy sauce. My sodium intake thanks you!

We had the chicken and beef teriyaki combo. Aside from the chicken being a bit dry, the food came piping hot and appealing. We feel we get a lot of good food for the price and the service is exceptional.

With an unassuming exterior, Kyoto Japanese Cuisine in Tustin is the epitome of a hidden gem, offering an authentic culinary experience that's rare to find. The ambiance blends retro charm with Japanese tradition, creating an inviting backdrop to a truly standout meal. The service is nothing short of exceptional--chefs engage with patrons, ensuring not just satisfaction, but delight with each dish served. From the sushi bar, you can witness the artful preparation of a wide array of selections, ranging from pristine yellowtail and tuna sashimi to adventurous offerings like oysters on the half-shell and uni sushi. I LOVED every bite the chef handed me. It shows that everyone gives careful attention to both flavor and presentation. Of special note was the chawanmushi, a classic dish executed flawlessly. The carefully curated sake list complements the fare, elevating your dining experience to one you'll be eager to repeat. What sets Kyoto Japanese Cuisine apart is its commitment to freshness--each bite validates this core tenet. In sum, Kyoto Japanese Cuisine isn't just Tustin's best-kept secret; it's a culinary treasure that deserves to be on everyone's radar. unequivocally recommended.

We ordered Sushi Combination and Chirash sushi, bottle of sake.Sushi quality was not good enough, even burnt. They should not put in theDish. I feel like to return whole dish. This was 2nd visit of this restaurant including previous owner. Nothing was changed yet.Chirash sushi was same. It doesn't look appetizing. I recommend to the owner, they should upgrade fish quality first. I didn't tried other dinner menu yet. But I feel sorry for them already.

The sushi was absolutely fantastic... Their fish was so fresh and the rolls were delicious. It's a hidden gem. Definitely check it out. For desert we tried coffee jello which was soooo good. We loved our sushi chef Itchi... he was the best Can't wait to go back

The high quality of the fish is what surprised me and it's the best I've had in years. If you've eaten at other sushi places in the area, come here, sit at the bar, and see for yourself. Drastic improvement all around since the change of ownership. Casual friendly environment too. My new go to place. I dint even like to order. Just let the chef do his thing.
