About The Monk Pub

The Monk is a small local place that feels warm and inviting, like an industrial cabin. The space is new but the food is made in house and tastes delicious. Guests can start with a pretzel served with spicy cheese, flavored mustard and a German lager or a Belgian and German beer on tap. The pretzel is soft and fluffy with full flavor. Popular dishes include Fish and Chips, a Spiced Lamb Burger cooked to med rare with arugula, Short rib poutine with fries, gravy and tender meat, Bavarian churros topped with vanilla ice cream, salmon plate to go, brussel sprouts and crispy wings. The menu changes on weekends but the regular menu is available. Service is friendly, prompt and attentive; staff greet guests immediately and answer questions. Bartenders are professional and chatty, making the beer selection perfectly paired for the food. Happy hour runs from 3‑5 and the beer selection is diverse, including domestics for those who aren’t as adventurous. Prices are a bit pricey but the food is enough to share and feel affordable with the quality. The owners are chefs from a fancy restaurant, which shows in the presentation that is incredible. The Monk is a hidden gem in Whittier that many call a great night.

So glad this place recovered and is back, better than ever. Even though in a new location, the space felt warm and inviting. Think: industrial cabin haha.
My son had the Fish and Chips. He rated it a 9/10 (literally an entire filet of what seems pollock or cod).
I had the Spiced Lamb Burger. Fantastic. Cooked to med rare as it should be, slight heat, great texture and superb combination with the arugula.
They have a great selection of Belgian and German beers on tap,...read full review
