“I’m not entirely sure why I’m giving Champs Chicken in Calhan four stars—probably because I want to support small businesses in small towns.
Calhan is a tiny town near the Painted Mines Interpretive Park, which I visited on March 1st. Around noon, I needed a bite before my hike and found only two food options nearby: Subway and Champs Chicken. I decided to give Champs a try.
This is a very small, walk-up food spot located inside a supermarket. There’s no seating, so I had to take my food to my car to eat. Only one employee was working, but she was incredibly pleasant and provided excellent service. I ordered a Champs Chicken Sandwich (à la carte) and a 3-piece chicken tenders with fries. Since they were out of chicken patties, she offered to use two tenders in the sandwich instead, which I accepted.
The food itself was hot, fresh, and filling. The fries were fried to order, and the portion size was decent. However, the experience took a hit when I realized that the ranch dipping sauce for the tenders was expired—I only noticed after getting back to my car. I didn’t go back to complain, but I’ve attached a photo showing the expired date (February, while I visited in March).
This Champs Chicken location doesn’t quite match up to other Champs Chicken franchises, but it’s a small-town spot with limited options. If you’re in Calhan and need a quick, filling meal, it’s an okay choice—but double-check your sauces!“

“The customer service at this location was top notch. The food was great, especially the Cinnamon Apples, but it wasn't all as hot as I prefer it. They also forgot to include the chicken with my 3 piece Tender meal, and when I told them, they hurriedly got it for me and apologized but when I got to my car I saw that they'd only put two tenders in the bag. Overall it was worth the money I spent, just don't expect them to be perfect.“
