We visit this historic restaurant about once a year. The fried chicken is the Best around! The assorted sides are great, especially the riced potatoes w/ gravy and the biscuits. They offer unlimited food (within reason) and seasonal beverages and desserts. One July we had some Sangria made from peaches and asst seasonal fruits that was fantastic and memorable. The only thing I would change are the uncomfortable chairs lol. We'll keep coming back Juniper Valley- you have a beautiful ranch and delicious food! Thank you!

My wife took me here for my birthday like she does every year. The waitress is very good but when we order our specific food requests for fried chicken it does not go well. Really don't understand the problem.

We absolutely love this place and have been going for years. We drive a distance to get there. BUT I don't know why when I ask our same server for white meat when I am paying 27.50 she always says, " I'll see what I can do." Yet when I walk out everyone has a large chicken breast which is white meat. I get the wings and thighs though. Not a very welcoming moment.

Supposedly the best fried chicken in Colorado, JVR must have changed their recipe.Took my father for his birthday - he's been several times over the past few decades and lauded it as the only restaurant that met my grandmother's high standard for fried chicken. The undifferentiated brown balls arrived at our table in a little serving dish. Most of them were dry, all of them were overly breaded with an unseasoned crust, and we couldn't visually distinguish between a thigh, breast, or wing. The slaw was crisp and tasty, with excellent use of apple. The apple butter superb. The other sides were fine to good. But the chicken? Surely this state can do better.*COVID info - small rooms, no ventilation, but CO² never exceeded 1000ppm (generally hovered around 700), possibly because the three tables in our room each had only 2 people

Service and atmosphere make up for the lack of seasoning. Everything is cooked well but VERY bland. It’s a nice experience with a cute shop attached but I would bring my own sauce/seasoning packets if I were to return.

Definitely a place to check out. I would suggest the skillet fried chicken. Great crust, not over seasoned. We also had the chicken fried steak (Friday special) it was good but over seasoned for me, the chicken was definitely better. Our waiter was good, he really stayed i top of our refills. It's a pretty small place so definitely make reservations.

I LOVE the charming setting of this place! It is rustic and quaint in the best possible way. The menu is small but well-executed. The fried chicken and Nashville hot chicken are both tasty and juicy and the skin is flavorful. The cole slaw and the biscuits were some of my favorite items. The service was so friendly and I felt super welcomed. definitely check it out! They do close from December to Easter and they require a reservation.

Recently went for the first time. Specifically went to try the Nashville hot chicken and was quite disappointed in it... The chicken was not spicy AT ALL. Need to go back to the drawing board on that spicy hot chicken recipe.Everything else was good. Really enjoyed the apple butter. But yea... nashville hot chicken from KFC was literally better.

My favorite parts were the ambience, the fried chicken, biscuits, and most amazing apple butter! I love that is on the prairie and that the servers share about the history.

I'd like to respond to the review from Caro C... this restaurant has been in business for 72 years, so they must be doing something right. If you did not enjoy your meal then don't go back . But to leave such a hateful review, commenting on the house someone lives in ... be a better human .

Super cool old traditional dinner joint. We ate in. They serve everything family style with a very condensed menu and have been around since 1951, so what they serve has got to be great, and it is! Super service and the 70 seat venue is really nostalgic, with cool old art and antique motif. We'd be happy to go back any time. Get a reservation or you'll be waiting some time!

The charm of the setting does not compensate for the immensely bland food. To call this Southern food is an affront to Southern cuisine. Each dish is the worst version you'll ever taste of that dish, so it's a good thing that the menu is so limited. You'll have mashed potatoes served like they were pushed out of a play dough spaghetti maker, and you have no confidence that they didn't use the actual children's toy. There's nothing cute about mashed potatoes made into spaghetti-like strings, and they somehow managed to taste watery. Your appetizer choices are either instant ramen chicken seasoning water with 2 cheez its or kool-aid sold as cherry cider also with 2 cheez its. The Nashville hot chicken wasn't spicy at all but was extra greasy and devoid of seasoning. It's frankly incredible that one can make fried chicken with such little flavor. Each dish was astonishingly tasteless. Everything is handcrafted, house-made without salt and with no mind to the flavor profile. The gravy needed salt, but it's the most flavorful side you'll encounter. You should salt it up then cover everything else in it because you're not getting flavor anywhere else. There's apple butter. There are biscuits served. That's all. I don't even want to talk about the bread pudding... my New Orleanian mother would be mortified. Go to Cracker Barrel instead. This place is playing a joke on you, and I'm convinced the other 5-star reviewers are in on it too. The family that lives in the "slightly renovated" chicken coop is definitely laughing all the way to the bank, but frankly, i hope they've made enough making customers look a fool to buy a real home. I at least want that for them.
