We had never been here but love speakeasy's and I can't begin to say enough for the quality of staff, drinks, and atmosphere. This place has it all. We just recently heard that this place will be closing permanently because of a Developer for the Larimer square area changing that space. What a loss this will be an really can't imagine going back to Larimer square for anything else. You must stop by before this happens. It is an experience you will not want to miss out on. Thanks to the amazing staff. You really made out night of celebration that much more amazing.
Convenient location. Nice decor inside. Gives the 1920s vibe. I felt slightly judged when I said I was the only person in my party. I was not offered a table and was immediately taken to an uncomfortable seat at the bar. Drinks were good but slightly overpriced. I ordered brisket and it was lackluster, especially considering they're inside a smoke house. Food was warm, not hot. Large portion/shareable.
Green Russell is under Latimer Street and often has a wait for a table or bar seat. The wait is well worth it. The drinks and service are both incredible. Even if you don't like the cocktails (or mocktail) on the menu, the bartender will make you something custom if you share the spirit and flavors you like. In June we visited in celebration of my mom who passed away 12 years ago. When we mentioned it would have been her birthday, they made me her favorite drink and wrote her name on the top of the drink. Just incredible and a moment I'll never forget.
Found this place by accident and it's in my favourites list now! This is a speakeasy from the prohibition era and is kept as is - very different vibe from what I've see at most other bars! Dim lit ambience with comfortable seating. Staff was super friendly and nice.I got the Clover club and husband got the penicillin - both so good. We also got the brisket biscuits - very buttery and the brisket was well smoked and flavory! They also have a smokehouse next door and the food comes from the same kitchen- definitely want to try the bbq place. All in all - great experience and I absolutely recommend! Coming back soon :)
Such an awesome cocktail bar! Our waitress was super knowledgeable about the drinks. A great spot for date night or meeting up with a small group of friends. It’s also the only place I’ve seen where there are as many non alcoholic cocktails as there are alcoholic ones - so cool!
We had an amazing time! Bartenders were entertaining and skilled, the Pork Belly bites and mac n’ cheese delicious, and the off-menu bourbon cocktail and the Breakfast Old Fashioned were the tastiest cocktails! We will be back!!
I had a party of two and we arrived right at 5pm on Saturday 7/30/22. They kept telling us 5 or 10 more minutes before they would let us down the stairs. They turned away 4 other parties. When we finally got down stairs to the hostess, it was weird. We did not feel welcomed. We were the first seated in the bar. The bar then filled up with about 8 other parties. We ordered our drinks but right away. We watched nearly every other party be served while we sat there. We finally just got up and walked out. This did not feel like a welcoming place to us. Disappointing experience all around. Terrible I came from New Orleans on a vacation trip. I love to try cocktail bars to compare to what we have back home. I hate that I did not get to experience this one. The place looked great but did not seem to have it together or even want us there.
I stopped in for a cocktail on my way to the airport. The atmosphere was swanky and amazing. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about cocktails. I had the fruit basket it was very refreshing. My only nit pick was that the drinks were a little pricey, I paid 20 dollars for one drink.
The beautiful one of a kind experience you will gain underground in this lair of fascinating drinks and food, Can be called the historic heart of Denver. Delphinia is a goddess that delivers amazing service and knowledge
What a wonderful night out. The Green Russell is a pre-prohibition-style speakeasy with impeccable cocktails and rustic decor reminiscent of the gold rush era.We went on a Wednesday evening at 6pm and approached the host desk outside in Larimer Square. We were informed there are no reservations and our entire party would need to be present before being seated. We waited just a moment for remaining members to arrive before heading down the stairs and into the waiting room.A friendly, smiling staff member explained the Green Russell experience to the first-time-visitors in our party. Next, we were led into the dimly lit speakeasy and to a set of comfortable chairs in the back surrounding a candle-lit table. The speakeasy was maybe half capacity at very most. The staff are knowledgeable of the menu and go the extra step for patrons. We told the waiter we were going to be leaving eventually for a show at Comedy Works and he was really awesome about helping us properly manage our time there. My girlfriend and our one friend both ordered the Spirits of Mexico, which was a tequila flight for tasting. It actually had Raicilla which was their deciding factor since it is not the most commonly found spirit here in the states. They even ordered another shot of Raicilla later.I ordered the Aprithot specialty cocktail which had courvoisier vs. cognac, apricot liqueur, lemon, pineapple, and angostura bitters. The other member of our party ordered the Jungle Bird which is made with denizen vatted dark rum, pineapple, Campari, lime and crushed ice.Our table also split the pretzel bites which were cooked to perfection with a very tasty brown ale mustard. All of the drinks and snacks were delicious. Overall, we had an enjoyable and memorable night out at the Green Russell. We will definitely be returning. Thanks!

Totally funky speakeasy hidden away down some stairs off Larimer Square. They have excellent bar food, like smoked Mac and Cheese and these super rich but tasty pretzel cheese curd things! Everyone I was with ordered off the cocktail menu. They have all the usual suspects, old style and new style. They also offer their own seasonal creations. The best of those was the Spring Voyage, made with gin, green chartreuse, vermouth, liquor 42, shiso, lemon grass, and a lime leaf. It was herbal and funky, and delicious. I had a corpse reviver 2. They not only knew what it was, but they made a perfect one.I really do love craft cocktails, and this place is great. A special shout out to the hostess. She was amazing. I asked her if this was where the speakeasy was, and she said "I don't know. Is it?" She was charming and witty! And full of interesting old Denver stories. This is a must-try place. Have fun looking for it!
Absolutely love this place. The vibe is great, dark and intimate feeling. Lots of leather chairs and smaller tables with candle light. It’s underground so you feel like you are in a cave with exposed rock. Service is amazing both times I’ve been, very knowledgeable staff. Huge menu made up of classics (alcoholic and not), seasonal, and signatures. The breakfast old fashioned on the signature list is so good. Old fashioned meets coffee and maple feel. Our waiter was newer but non the less very attentive and great at explaining flavor profile for each cocktail we asked about.
A wonderfully delightful and one of the more authentic speakeasies I've been to! Service was wonderful and the drinks were perfectly crafted. A bit on the pricier end, especially with the added 22% CHP fee, but it's a small price to pay for the overall experience, in my opinion. Will definitely come back if I find myself back in Denver!
Extremely knowledgeable staff and highly entertaining variety of craft drinks. The dark vibes, lovely atmosphere, and ice hacking only add to the charm. Get here early so you can snag a spot because it gets mad crowded due to its popularity.
Went on a Friday night around 9pm. Was packed. Corn bread stole the show here. Cocktails were super pricey, wine was reasonable and delicious. They have an odd policy that you can’t order food if you’re at the front bar area…(why?) So we waited to be seated in the back. Service was friendly but slow. At one point the bartenders put on a random fire show blowing flames out of there mouth. That gained them another star :) Ambiance was great. The farther back you go, the better in atmosphere. There’s a random telephone booth that just adds to the mystique. My date got the BLT bites that were missing the ‘L’, he still seemed to enjoy them. Being a vegan, I was not impressed, but that’s another review not for here….
