Wow, I really enjoyed Hapa. My server was fantastic. She really knew the menu and was able to explain options to me. Including all of the Sake options in the flights. They have a variety of rolls and traditional fare, but the sashimi options were next level. I got the Black Salt Tombo and it melted in my mouth. The XXX roll was amazing. No need for soy sauce or wasabi. What an amazing place. Great atmosphere and again, the service was extraordinary!

Usually very good sushi but tonight was not good at all. Intestinal distress later that night for all attendees... coincidence? I don't think so. Will not give them another chance - so many other good sushi places in Denver

Opentable Diner

As someone who has dined at top sushi restaurants around the world, I came to Hapa with an open mind but realistic expectations. For casual diners looking for a lively atmosphere and creative rolls, it's a solid choice. But if you're seeking refined fish and thoughtful execution, it doesn't quite deliver. The LoDo location is energetic and stylish, but extremely loud. Conversation was nearly impossible across the table. Service was friendly but inconsistent, and although we noted our time constraint, food arrived with only 20 minutes left in our meal. The uni and fatty tuna were disappointing, with oversized, gummy rice that overwhelmed the fish. While the rolls were fine and the sashimi fresh, nothing stood out in a city with plenty of comparable options. Hapa is fun, approachable, and good for groups, but not a destination for serious sushi lovers.

Overall really good experience. My husband left his jacket and they called us before we got to the car. Thank you!

Sushi was decent, fresh, and basic sushi was priced, OK. "signature" rolls are two expensive. SOme places that use pen & paper for the client to place an 'order' seem lazy, at best. If truly Japanese, and they didn't speak English behind the counter, and IF the Japanese translation was also on the paper, then maybe, I appreciate and understand. Maybe for young, High School kids, this is a cool feature, but seriously, at real restaurant priced food, why? The rolls were OK, not true Japanese type, and most of hte sushi was good, as well. One type was a little strange, not bad, but seemed like it was flavored. For a casual, less formal, Sushi type place, it is fine.

Has gluten free menu and many gluten free options. Staff knowledgeable about cross contamination.

Disappointing Experience at Hapa Sushi

I came to Hapa Sushi to celebrate a friend’s birthday, and unfortunately, the experience was frustrating from start to finish.

Our server was inattentive and the service overall was extremely slow. We were asked early on if we wanted to split the check, we said yes, and she confirmed it wouldn’t be an issue. However, when the check was finally dropped, she had us circle and initial what we ordered, which felt disorganized and unusual.

Things went downhill from there. We had a reservation to go bowling after dinner, but nearly 30 minutes passed after handing over our cards, and we still hadn’t received them back. We finally had to ask for a manager. When the server returned, the checks were completely wrong, one person was charged over $100, another just $3. When we asked for an itemized bill, she ignored us and walked away.

The manager showed up for the first time that evening, offered a lukewarm apology, and said he couldn’t fix the charges or print the original bill. He gave one friend a $100 gift card, but the checks remained incorrect and nothing was resolved.

The food was just okay, not as fresh or flavorful as I’ve had at Hapa in the past. Combined with the chaotic service and lack of accountability, it made for a really disappointing night, especially for a birthday celebration. Save your money, there are far better options for sushi in Denver.

Everything was great as always! It's always a little loud when I'm there, so I'm glad I went early.

The best sushi we’ve had. Plus the spicy miso soup and the calamari fries were out of this world!

We recently dined at Hapa Sushi Grill and Sake Bar in Denver, and while the food was fresh and the sake selection solid, the service was unfortunately disappointing.

We waited over an hour for our food, and during that time, we watched multiple tables who arrived after us get served well before us. Our server, Julia, seemed inexperienced and was unfamiliar with several menu items, unable to explain them clearly. The manager, Jorge, came by to apologize and offered to bring another round of drinks due to the delay—but we never received them. Instead, he only waived one round, which felt like a broken promise.

On the positive side, the sushi was high-quality, and the fish was fresh. The sake list is interesting, though it’s clear the broader sake culture in Denver is still developing.

Overall, the food has great potential, but the slow service and poor follow-through from staff made the experience frustrating. I hope they work on staff training and service consistency to better match the kitchen’s quality.
P.S. about banking the table for Sake bomb that’s true! Nobody will clear your mess after you spill half of your drink on the table!
