The restaurant needs some restoration. Seems a bit run down. We sat at the far end from the entrance next to the corner window. The window was dirty and had a long strip of dirt that ran down the window. The model ship in the window was covered with dust and appeared to not have been attended to in years. My sister had the crap cake sandwich which she said was very good. I had the fried oyster sandwich which was also good but difficult to handle. Servicer was friendly and efficient.
The atmospher and location were gerat, and our server was atentive. I had the knife and forkplate, and either the sauce or the meat was so very salty that it nearly was inedible. The mushroom hoagie type sandwich was also extremely salty. The kitchen needs to tone doen its use of salt. I am happy to add salt if needed, but generally good ingredients nee less salt,.
Friday and Saturday nights are legendary in the Ship Tavern. Live music (Joh Kite on piano Friday, and his jazz quartet Saturday) and people singing while everyone enjoys great food and one-of-a-kind historic ambience.
