Stepping into the Brown Palace and looking at the central lobby is always a treat. But eating here wasn't, unfortunately. The Ship Tavern is a charming space to be in for a while, but the food was mediocre at best. Maybe a better place to grab a drink at the bar than for a meal.
Nice atmosphere - food left me a little disappointed. My salad had too much dressing and was soggy at the bottom. My steak was very heavy with garlic - I like garlic - but it was overwhelming. I hoped for more.
Our server neglected to ensure the salad had dressing on the side. The crab cake was drowning in a sea of tartar sauce and covered with a mound of frisbee lettuce. We actually refused the food because it didn't look at all like what we thought we ordered. But, sadly, it was. The cocktails and wine were very good. Dessert was very good as well, but took forever to come out. We took a few bites and had to leave to make our theatre curtain time. Overall, not the Tavern experience...
