If you’re looking for a place that feels special the minute you walk in, Mahogany Grille at the Strater Hotel absolutely delivers. We celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary there last night, and honestly, it couldn’t have been better. The historic setting is warm, elegant, and just the right amount of old-school classy without feeling stuffy. You slow down the second you sit down—and that’s a good thing.
The food was excellent across the board: beautifully prepared, thoughtfully presented, and clearly coming from a kitchen that knows what it’s doing. Service was polished but genuinely friendly, not rehearsed. A really nice touch was the complimentary glasses of champagne to help us celebrate—unexpected and very much appreciated. It set the tone for the whole evening.
Mahogany Grille feels like the kind of restaurant that’s perfect for milestones, date nights, or anytime you want a memorable dining experience in Durango. Fabulous night, wonderful food, and a celebration we won’t forget. We’ll absolutely be back.

My girlfriend and I went here for Snowdown. We had a late reservation at 8:15pm, and we were running 5 minutes late. We called and told them we were running late and they were totally understandable. When we arrived, they had our table ready and 2 glasses of water waiting for us. I can't remember the name of our waitress but she was super nice and didn't rush us out of the restaurant even though they closed at 9pm. The food was absolutely amazing. We will definitely be going back.

Had the Tartar, Ribeye, Crème Brûlée, and a latte. The server was great, food was fantastic, and the environment was very suitable for a relaxing dinner.

Well we didn't have reservations tonight but they got us right in! Service was absolutely impeccable! We had no clue we were coming to Durango during Snowdown so we were definitely unprepared for the crowds and how busy things would get.
Food was outstanding! The salmon was literally the best I ever had! Sounds like the menu changes up seasonally so that's pretty cool, always something new.
Drinks took a little longer than normal but they were definitely busy so understandable! I asked to swap the gin for vodka, I'm not entirely convinced I got vodka both times but it was still good, again they were busy!
We could see the parade from our table which was cool. Durango definitely shows up!

Our waiter was FABULOUS and the food was excellent. Lovely atmosphere and a very commendable, well-priced wine list. Having eaten at Michelin starred restaurants, we expected this to be a so-so meal more as a touristy thing to enjoy the historical setting - but we were thrilled to be wrong. This is a first-rate restaurant, across the board, that deserves to be recognized as such! Highly recommend!!!
Absolutely AMAZING experience! From the moment we sat down, everything was top-notch. I want to give a huge shout-out to our server Keyna (apologies if I misspelled your name), because she truly went above and beyond for my 6-year-old daughter. She helped us customize my daughter’s meal, made thoughtful substitutions, and genuinely cared that she enjoyed her food. That kind of service is rare—and it mattered.
The food was fantastic, but the staff made the experience unforgettable. Friendly, attentive, and welcoming across the board. Keyna was patient, kind, and an absolute pro—she made our meal stress-free and genuinely enjoyable. From meal substitutions for my daughter to being knowledgeable about the whiskeys for me , Keyna had us covered .
We will 100% be back, and I wouldn’t hesitate to bring family and friends. If you’re in Durango, do yourself a favor and eat here. Outstanding food, even better people, and service that actually lives up to the hype.

Absolutely loved this beautiful hotel and dining room. Our service was a bit slow to start off, greeting by hostess and our waitress, but it was a very busy night and their friendliness made up for it. Food was great! Husband loved his steak and we loved our grilled salmon. Son said chicken was very bland, avoid. Didn't care for the side dishes (hazelnut dusted cooked grapes or parsnip puree.) The ambiance and main proteins made up for our dislikes and we'd recommend this restaurant for anyone in town visiting and wanting a special night out.

Really nice dinner at this well established dining spot in Durango. An Old West style place that was very comfortable. The Herbert steak was outstanding and the ribeye excellent. Even thought It was New Year's Eve, service was prompt and satisfying. Highly recommended.
Ordered the Elk Stroganoff, noodles were overcooked. Biggest issue was the Elk, extremely tough but had a rancid very unpleasant taste.
Fuimos a celebrar el cumpleaños de mi esposo y la verdad la comida está deliciosa , el vino , el postre , todo delicioso y la mesera super amable y profesional 🙂
