3 strikes and they're out. Sad that such a historic spot cannot get it right after so many different changes in management over the years! Great location, historic building, terrible food and abysmal service. We keep trying to give them another chance but every time we do, it's a complete and total let down. We went in one last time for a drink and apps. The last few visits the cocktails have been totally hit or miss. I ordered a smoked old fashioned and was brought a single pour of straight whiskey after waiting 15 minutes and needing to repeat my order twice because the bartender forgot. The apps I ordered were never brought (not that hard to put chips and pre-made salsa on a plate) so I ended up just cancelling the order and leaving. The waitress asked "oh, would you like me to go check on your food?" The food has gone completely down hill. The service is non-existent. It seems like nobody there truly cares about running a quality restaurant and bar. Beware when a business has all 5 stars and 1 star reviews. The 5 stars are likely from friends and 1 stars are honest reviews of how down hill this place has gone. A lot of recent 1 star reviews. Looks like people have had enough. Hearing they are out of business now and weren't even paying employees. IF they reopen under the same ownership and/or management, they won't get another chance from us.

Stopped by a few weeks ago, but it was closed for an event. Stopped by today and it was closed for an event. Owner needs to replace 'diner' with 'event center'

We went to El Rancho to celebrate my husband's birthday. We really enjoyed our dinner with friends and the food was really good and the atmosphere was excellent. We love the original interior and tables & chairs. The bar is so authentic too... we really want to support this unique place and plan to come back again soon.
Vegetarian options: I had a great salad from their salad bar and some other good soup. Our friends had other options they loved.
Parking: Great location with view of mountains, beautiful outdoor patio and near highway access

DO NOT GO HERE. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH We made Open Table reservations for 9/21/2024. We received confirmations by text and email for the date & time. When we arrived, the restaurant was closed "for a private event" that looked like it consisted of about 20 people. We went inside to inquire and the bartender told us "no idea, i don't make the reservations." When asked for another restaurant recommendation, he said "there's no good food in Evergreen, CO, including this place." What an endorsement!
8/14 @ 12:10p Business is supposed to be open at noon today - nobody at restaurant Many other cars came up. We all had to turn around and go elsewhere. Lights are off nobody there. May have gone out of business?? Wouldn’t recommend trying here

Sad they went downhill & are now likely closing. A gem ? back in the day. Had my rehearsal dinner there. Ask the manager if employees have been getting paid…..
Tried a burger, way to over cooked. (Cooked)
Rueben is the bomb.
Service, they all need to be fired and start all over. Everyone that works there thinks a own the place, so they make there own rules up. Pretty sure owner does not know that.
And they are stingy with everything ?

I really enjoyed dining at El Rancho! Came with some friends and we ordered lots of food to share - Caesar salad, nachos, potato skins, tacos, & ceviche. Food was delicious. I had the strawberry rhubarb mule (which I loved), my friend had the Eat a Peach which she loved, and my other friend had a refreshing beer. We came on a Saturday night and there was live music playing which we loved. After the music ended, we sat outside by the fire pit and it was a great way to end our night.
We loved Capt & Alice.

Our drinks took 20 minutes to arrive, one by one. The waitress took our food orders (did not write it down) and then 10 mins later comes back and asked for our order again because she forgot. She also did not know the beer list. At a brewery.
I ordered the a burger, medium rare. It arrived charred and well done. I sent it back, and emphasized it should be medium rare. It came bacK AGAIN overdone. The cook said she was told “medium”. For the second time.
Finally upon getting my food for the 3rd time, the bacon was cold and the burger was barely pink, and still significantly overdone. I took a few bites and it was not good.
And my mother ordered a fish dish, and there were chunks of chicken in her meal. Lots.
Drive the extra few minutes to literally anywhere else.

Restaurantji Recommends
We were staying at the hotel up the road from restaurant and looked at the reviews which are not very good but decided to give it a try anyway.
We were seated immediately and drink orders right away. We ordered the bison burger and the Rueben sandwich along with two beers. Everything came out as ordered and was very good. Some have mentioned that they charge a service fee but when you look at the receipt they do not. We finished off the evening with beers on the deck with a beautiful view. Would recommend to others.

I have no idea why I seem to attract restaurants near an outstanding hotel that "round up". Im in Evergreen, Colorado and the El Rancho is a short walk so off I go! My daughter and son in law drive in from Boulder to join me for lunch . Our server is fantastic-on point and attentive. I have a margarita on the rocks with salt because I feel compelled to compare it with the thousands I have tried. (No judging). Yah, it arrives and MEH, really sweet so I pucker on my first sip. I'll survive but I won't order again. I have the tomato soup and its really tasty as the tomato has a smoky aftertaste. I've never had this before and it's a welcome change. My daughter enjoyed a bison burger (didn't share and ate quickly when I side eyed her plate). Son in law never even let me know what he ordered but proclaimed it good. What is wrong with this picture folks? Ungrateful children! ? so let's move on to the bill. Again, SIGH, is this a new thing with restaurants? The bill arrives and it's 64.79. I plop a 100.00 bill down and the server brings back 35.00. ????. I'm flummoxed. THIS time I bypass the server and ask the 2 people at the front (who look like managers) if they "round up" and they both reply, "yes! We do, we dont do change." Well, a conversation ensues and after a 2 minute kerfuffle they both exclaim, "OH! we round down! We owe you a dollar". WHAT JUST HAPPENED? I specifically asked if the restaurant took the hit for the "round down" and they both replied yes. Seriously? I told them both if your servers fail to tell their guests the restaurant rounds up, it's stealing.

Updating my review to reflect the new changes. I frequent El Rancho often, and have been through it's various ups and downs. It's latest changes are great. They've hired some new folks, and I'm glad to see some old El Rancho staples back, Onion Rings & Wings are fantastic!
They always have great music, Trivia on Thursdays is fun.
Give them a chance for your next meal!
