Service is incredibly slow even when they are not busy. The food is terrible. We’ve stayed at the resort for two weeks in the past 6 months and purposely plan our day to avoid Heck’s Tavern because it is so bad. In addition
to terrible food with slow service it is extremely overpriced. $38 for their special … it was one pulled pork slider with fries. Really? This morning I paid $20 with tip for 2 bagels with cream cheese to go to get store bought bagels. It took almost 20 minutes and there were 2 tables seated in the entire restaurant. I would describe it as just frustrating.

We stopped in for nostalgia sake (we got engaged at Devil’s Thumb 26 years ago) and stayed for lunch on the deck overlooking the valley. The service was excellent, as was the food. We had the wagyu cheeseburger, tips and dips appetizer, ugly tomato salad and the wedge. Beautifully presented. Special shout out to Maicon and Ty for taking care of us. Thank you!

Bad service. Clear management problem.

Heck’s is back!! There was a moment where things (service, etc) were a little disappointing but that’s all changed with Chef Maggie. Her flavors, more extensive menu, ability to fluctuate dish items, food sourcing… *chefs kiss!!!* - what a true creative professional she is.

The service was also lovely. Staff was attentive and accommodating. No complaints.

Devil’s thumb is a really special place. A Colorado gem. You don’t get privately owned resorts to this caliber often. Owners did a good job making the restaurant piece right again. We’ve been coming here for over ten years and will continue to spend time here for many years to come.

Very nice place that has a central fireplace that generates heat to any corner of the site. The dishes are in very good proportions, but I think they can improve the flavors

This place is incredible. Chef Maggie does an amazing job with the food and it saddens me that it’s received such negative reviews. The service was exceptional and we had a wonderful time.

My issue? There were SEVERAL people coming to the bar making requests and responding unkindly when it took more than 5-10 minutes for the staff to fulfill those requests on a very busy night. Where I come from, that’s standard and considered great service because each guest was taken care of and not made to wait for over 8 minutes.

The staff is 5 star. Kind, hard-working and accommodating. It’s the guests that need to step up. I’m a travel advisor and my husband and I travel for work, and I have never been anywhere where the guests have been so incredibly rude to the hard working, talented individuals that keep this place running smoothly. This ranch is priced fairly and well staffed (considering it’s the slow season) when comparing it to the surrounding competition AND to the industry in general.

We will always recommend this gem to anyone looking for an exceptional experience.

I’ve been going here and staying here for… over 15 years I think. I’ve stayed in every building and multiple times in the cabins.

Tried to get lunch and they turned everyone away who wasn’t staying at the hotel despite it being empty. So completely stupid, but also in line with the declining service over the years. It’s such a shame because I have so many memories here.

We sat at the bar and the bartender was angry! The poor wait staff would have to ask if it's ok to take a glass. He was upset when someone returned their drink because the glass was dirty...and his response was "f her". Not acceptable. We ordered a $30 burger and the fries were cold. Burger was good but who serves cold fries in a higher end restaurant? We were afraid to tell the bartender as he was so upset about having to do his job, didn't want to make him more upset!
We have a place in WP so frequent this restaurant often but may not go back. It was that upsetting.

I have been coming here for at least a decade. Since 2020 the service has been getting worse but still acceptable. This year though it’s just gone to Heck’s. 30 minutes to get bread, another 15 to get bread plates. Etc. I know good help is hard to find in 2024 but for the prices of the food you can get talent by paying them fairly and snipe from other places in town. 2025 I’m likely going to Dutton instead.

I saw the mixed reviews claiming the service was hit or miss. My wife and I tried this place while staying at the resort and I would say it was overall a pretty good experience. We were seated by the window upon request. The appetizer and entrees we ordered were pretty good overall, albeit a bit expensive for what they were. Overall, this place is a solid stop if you want to grab a quick dinner or lunch. I also dropped in a couple times just to grab a cocktail or two and sit by the fireplace. Even during off hours, there were some very friendly and knowledgeable staff members who fixed me a knockout cocktail and were good for a quick chat. I love the little touches and knowing the staff enjoy working here and go out of their way to give the guests a great experience. This all really surprised me, especially since it was off-season for the resort.

Only available to hotel guests - This used to be a great option, now it’s off the list. *If you’re staying at DT, it’s a great spot.

Very cozy in front of the wood burning fire at Heck’s. We enjoyed the staff, especially Erica.

Zero people in the bar and nobody would serve us because we aren’t guests. We were literally two people coming in with no one but a bartender there. Horrible place.

Christmas dinner 2022 was a wonderful time. There was a slight delay in the delivery of each course, but it's understandable considering the special occasion, and many other guests being served simultaneously. I have no complaints about the service, as they were apologetic and kind, (working on Christmas day!), and at least the alcohol was brought out promptly, which is, you know, pretty important. Haha. The prime rib was absolutely perfect, served medium with plentiful sides. It was apparently the chef's birthday too, and he did a fantastic job. In the future, hopefully they are able to time the arrival of the entree better, so it doesn't show up while I'm still trying to eat the salad.
