We have come to Russell's every year since it opened in 1989 and have always enjoyed it. Something we always looked forward to was their warm baguette with butter. For some strange reason this year they changed to these puffy roles that resemble pillsbury and you would expect to find in Cracker Barrel or Denny's. They are horrible!!!! Bring back the baguette. We will be at Elways until you do. Our stakes were a bit over cooked!
I been a client si ce the last 15 years and its amazing I apologise for the noise that my grand childrens dos but it was my dauhters birday and the insist to come , I am sure that thouse tree liter girls will be customers for the future Thank you againg for the overstanding Service that we recibe yesterday it was a lovely nigth and these Restaurant should be in the michelin guide
Wonderful food, no frills, amazing steak. The staff was very helpful but not annoying. Nice atmosphere. Would 100% go back.
47 minutes from arrival to food with a mostly empty restaurant. Ribs were tasty but nut fall off the bone as they should be. NY strip was cooked perfectly but poor quality meat and very tough. Broccoli was luke warm at best. Luke warm baked potato with excellent toppings except for the butter. Butter was almost frozen. This was a second chance for Russell's. Same experience. There are better choices for a meal at these prices in Vail.
Russell's was such a fantastic experience, that I am confident it will be a yearly tradition. Shoutout to our waiter Adam Logan, an absolute stud who exemplified what great service can be. The food was fantastic, with a welcoming atmosphere from all in a stellar location. Can not rave enough about this place.
Staying at the Grand Hyatt, we took a bus to the Village . Russel’s was recommended . We did not have a reservation , the restaurant looked to be at 1/2 capacity. Due to our lack of reservations , we were offered a table at the entrance . Everyone who came though the door , let in a burst of freezing cold air . The bar was steps away and the front door opened frequently . Our waiter must have had a section in another part of the restaurant and we were a pick up table. The waiter was distracted inattentive and slow. My son ordered a steak, I ordered a German dish, pork schnitzel. We also ordered the bread which was delicious. My dish , I could barely cut with a knife . The meat was so tough and fatty it was literally impossible to chew . I tried to let the waiter know, but it took him so long to come back my son was finished his steak. He offered to bring me a fresh plate , I accepted and the pork schnitzel I received was barely better than the first one. Just a horrible cut of meat.
We had to wait for our check, then the waiter ran my card for someone else’s tab. Good thing I caught it. He corrected the mistake, but we had to wait another 10-15 min. Freezing at the entrance , in our prized seating . Lol. Russel’s mailed it in and was completely overpriced for what we received . One beer, one soda, a basket of bread, and two dinners. Son said the steak was good. Our bill for 2 people with tip was 182.00.

I have been debating on this review since we have been going to Russells over 30 years and try to do our Office Party here every year. Just something about quality that has been going down over the years. Our waiter was less than attentive. Maybe because we were only 6 this year and less tip than the 12 top? Two of us ordered the lobster add. Both came over cooked and had to work like heck to get anything out of the shell. We did tell them and not much response. They did comp one, should have been both. One steak was over cooked. Our favorite dish has always been the Potatoes. We got one for an appetizer and one with the meal. Each one was a little different. Not sure what has happened over the many years but the recipe has changed and just different. Again, if anyone has ever asked where the best steaks and restaurant in Vail is, we always said Russells. Not sure that is the case anymore.

We had our Thanksgiving dinner at Russell’s Restaurant in Vail, and all I can say is WOW — what an incredible experience. Everything was perfect from start to finish.
Our waiter, Mr. Waslyhe, was absolutely amazing. He took such great care of our table, recommended a few dishes, and every single one of them was outstanding. The meat literally melted in your mouth, and the duck was on another level — rich, flavorful, and unforgettable.
The restaurant itself feels cozy, warm, and welcoming, with a comfortable atmosphere that makes you enjoy every minute of your meal. The entire staff was professional, friendly, and attentive.
It was a beautiful, grateful Thanksgiving dinner, and I truly appreciate the service we received. I will definitely come back every time I pass through Vail, Colorado — just to sit, relax, and enjoy the amazing food again.
Highly recommended!

One of the best steakhouses I've ever visited. The moment you walk in, you can feel the quality — the ambiance is classy, the service is exceptional, and the attention to detail is unmatched. The steak was cooked to absolute perfection: tender, flavorful, and exactly the temperature I asked for. The sides were just as impressive, especially the mashed potatoes and truffle fries. If you're looking for a place that delivers a true premium steakhouse experience from start to finish, this is it. Worth every penny. I'll definitely be coming back.
Was disappointed in Russell's - food was just ok, Mac and cheese came out partially ice cold which made me think it was frozen beforehand and just “warmed” up and steak was underwhelming at best. For two people with two drinks each the bill was about $400.
The reason I give 3 stars is they do not give you a table before they ask you to sit at the bar and order drinks. After we ordered the drinks at the bar, the owner asked if we wanted a booth or a regular table.

The food was overpriced for the quality. When ordering a steak, they don’t allow substitutions for the potato or broccoli sides, which was disappointing. The dishes came out quickly, but the overall experience didn’t match what I expect from a higher-priced restaurant

Lauren, our server, was awesome! We had her back in the Spring when we were in Vail and she is the consummate professional. We mentioned that we like to "dine" and she knew exactly what we meant, taking her time to let us enjoy each course and our conversation. The food was EXCELLENT as usual, with my wife enjoying her well done filet (yes, I know!) and me enjoying their new Ribeye from Lazy T Ranch out of Wyoming...One of the best steaks I've had at a restaurant lately. A great experience from service to food. We go to Russell's for our last night in Vail every visit and are never let down.
