Downright awful overpriced food overcooked and the pisco Sour drinks the worst ever

Amazing atmosphere with solid food.
First time in last night and I have to say, Empire of the Incas is an oasis in the heart of an otherwise underwhelming downtown Danbury scene.
Surrounded by vacant shops, it stands alone with a classy and polished fascade. The dark tone gives the restaurant an intimate and alluring atmosphere.
The lack of parking is annoying but expected in any downtown restaurant.
The food was good, but I was a little underwhelmed at the price point. The lomo saltado was regrettably overcooked but still surprisingly tender. Flavors were on point.
The arroz chaufa de pollo was certainly good but had no outstanding quality to rank it above the chicken fried rice of most Chinese places in the area at nearly double the cost.
The service was top tier. Everyone at the bar was super friendly and despite a slight language barrier for native English speakers, we got responsive service with a smile.
All in all, I'd go 7/10 and call Empire of the Incas a solid date night spot for anybody looking to spend a little more to get some quality Peruvian food.

Food - having lived in Stamford where we were surrounded by Peruvian food, we had high expectations. We ordered the pork tamale, beef empanada, cheese empanada, milanesa de pollo and lomo saltado. All were quite good, with the lomo being the standout. The steak was much better quality than we’re used to. Unfortunately the rice was like any other white rice and took up half the plate, unlike what we were used to at the restaurants in Stamford where I’d order just the white rice on its own because it had so much flavor. The aji sauce was very very mustardy, which I was not used to (but loved how spicy it was). Usually I want aji by the bucket, but I wasn’t blown away, and actually barely used it. It’s typically a highlight of the meal elsewhere.
Service - it was 3pm on a Friday and we were the only ones there. Service was as it should have been.
Atmosphere - love the vibe, decor, great space, and clean. It was dead silent, though. Not even any music playing until about five minutes before we left, which was weird.
Price - expensive. Stamford prices but this is Danbury. Almost $30 for an entree where 50% of it is rice.
I will definitely go back when I crave Peruvian, but I won’t be running.

I’ve been a loyal customer of this restaurant for a long time, and I’ve always enjoyed their food and service. But lately, things have gone downhill fast. My last few orders have been completely off — dried food, dried fish, and overall plates that looked and tasted like they were thrown together with no care.
What’s disappointing is that it feels like once you become a regular customer, the quality and attention you get starts to fade. When I first started going, everything was fresh, consistent, and handled with care. Now it seems like they’ve stopped trying, even though I spend money there repeatedly.
After a few bad experiences in a row, I’ve stopped going altogether. It’s really unfortunate because I used to recommend this spot, but the recent decline in quality has been hard to ignore.
